The towers are looking pretty good, although I feel a tad underwhelmed by the design. I think it's mostly the podium....it's just a clunker. Great dense project nonetheless,

To each their own. I respectfully disagree whole heartedly. I think it's a great design and is a gem in the South Loop but I would enjoy it anywhere in the city. Also even though there are some great pictures submitted on here, pictures cant do the glass justice, it is stunning in person.

One thing I wish they would have done is added a little more height to the taller of the two sections to add almost a "Vista" type affect. Either way though I think its very well done.

The tower is a stunner, I just think the design's a bit too subtle....and the podium is a work-in progress.

I really like how this is turning out. The vaginas in the center are quite striking!

Stunning! Wish this one filled in one of the vacant spaces on Michigan Ave on the park.

BonoboZill4 Sep 11, 2018 2:21 AM

That first picture really shows just how dense the South Loop is starting to get now. 20 years have led to such huge changes, and the next 20 will make it look like a fluid continuation of the Loop proper

This one keeps getting better

^ Agreed. Man does this look good. Between SoMi, Essex and OGP/NEMA, the South Loop is getting some fantastic new architecture.

alegalvvan94 Sep 13, 2018 6:16 PM

This one really sticks out from UIC. How many floors do we have left to go?

If it sticks to the renderings, then we're very close to topping off:

http://images.skyscrapercenter.com/b...ext_(c)scb.jpg

That image shows four corner cuts in the glass, and then the equivalent of a fifth on its way to the top. The most recent photos on this site show four corner cuts and basically the equivalent of a fifth in construction materials.

BonoboZill4 Sep 14, 2018 3:31 AM

Such a sexy tower

Ned.B Sep 14, 2018 1:38 PM

I counted 43 floors above the podium in the rendering and maybe 40 or 41 floors built. The design clearly has changes some since the rendering though. The slices at the corners were all shifted down 5 floors with respect to the podium.

Wow, what a nice cluster of buildings the South Loop has now.

left of center Sep 18, 2018 1:20 AM

Wow, yeah the South Loop is looking fierce. And to think how comparatively barren it was around the turn of the millennium. Amazing the changes we have seen since then.

go go white sox Sep 18, 2018 3:40 AM

For real right, when the other proposals are build the South loop will be able to stand alone as one of the top skylines in the country, all by itself. Oh and of course.. .DA BEARS!

I want to know why the eastern half of this tower is slightly taller. Is it the penthouse floor? Mechanical? The tiny bump will (I think) make it look slightly less visually intriguing than it is right now. It should have been either a flat roof or a considerably taller eastern half.

This tower is going to look great when finished, but I think they should have lowered the western half and stretched the eastern portion. But that's just me.

BuildThemTaller Oct 24, 2018 2:48 PM

^ That's always how the building was designed. It's had the step-down from the original renders.

Oh, I'm aware, I've been following this since it was announced. But I still wish, and your screen name might suggest that you'd agree with me, that they had built the eastern half taller. It just looks ... odd.

RedCorsair87 Oct 24, 2018 3:53 PM

Yes, I do wish it was taller. Called out!

The top of the Eastern half is an amenity floor, including gym. Above that is a mechanical penthouse.

kolchak Oct 24, 2018 6:09 PM

Man some of those corner windows are gonna have a real 'Luxor Hotel' effect from inside...

The tower looks good but I dont like what I'm seeing as far as how the building meets the street. The symetrical base is weird. I'll hold out judgement until its finished - will have a good close up view walking to Soldier Field this Sunday...

I think this one has done a better job of minimizing the visual heft of the parking podium than others (*cough* One South Halsted). The garage doesn't seem to be the main thing that meets that street. I agree that waiting to see how it turns out is the best approach.

left of center Oct 24, 2018 9:39 PM

This tower is turning into a real unsung hero of this building cycle. Both it and Essex are high on my list.

Yeah, it's slightly awkward, I'll have to agree... That being said, it's has grown on me the more I've seen it in person and in real pictures as compared to the renderings, so I imagine the same will be the case for the weird crown.

Chi-Sky21 Oct 25, 2018 2:56 PM

I don't think the crown looks bad at all, i like the variation, looks much better than the top of Essex. THAT is a bad crown.

^Thank you. It's like some lame reference to 1985. (the Essex, I mean... sorry, wrong thread)

Nice photos as usual..

This one really looks great. Some nice touches really make it stand out. To the cheap builders who want to put up value engineered cookie cutter design boxes all over the city, shame on them. They show no respect for Chicago and are only concerned with their pocketbooks. They need to do a little something extra to stand out from the crowd just like they do in NYC.

I had reservations about the base of this building but in person the side flutes/wings are much lees imposing than they appear in photos from street level. I also like how the cladding comes all the way down to meet the sidewalk. Nice detail

The tree on top of building gimmick continues, huh? I've never really bought into it tbh. I love a well landscaped roof for sure, but trees just seem forced
