Awesome to hear that Wallace sandstone will be on Queen's Marque. Actually, if I recall correctly, I do believe staff wanted to make that a requirement on the site as part of the approvals and the developer pushed back and got their way. Glad to see they're doing it anyways.

If you look at old pictures of the waterfront, or the few intact historical parts today, one nice feature that adds a lot to the unique feel is the relatively fine-grained pattern of buildings and hemmed in open space. Queen's Marque is going to have a large footprint but based on this photo it looks like it'll restore that feel to this area, which was completely destroyed when the land was cleared for parking.
Another aspect of this site is that it ties together two separate relative cohesive chunks of waterfront. The whole of the Prince Street axis will be filled in too, aside from one little parking lot by Market Steet. It'll be a big change from a few years ago when it felt like you couldn't go more than a couple of blocks without running into a big parking lot downtown. |
