I went to St. George in January and I was amazed at the amount of development that had occurred there in just the few years since I had last been there. I didn't go to the downtown area, but I could see all the construction from the ridge above the "D". With that rail line from LA to Vegas coming along, I can see them extending the line to St. George in just a couple years. I would like to see that happen.

The Virgin River gorge might be problematic for a high speed train

^Agreed. The northern route has more suitable terrain but it is longer and would have to cut through the Paiute reservation.

I highly doubt there is enough demand on that route to justify the cost.

The Advenire Hotel by Marriott

The Advenire Hotel by Marriott’s Autograph Collection | City View | St. George
PEG Development and ajc architects have been working in coordination with St. George City on what has been referred to as the “largest downtown core redevelopment in St. George’s history”. City View will be a flagship project in the historic district of St. George and is intended to set the tone for all future development in the area. Our team worked closely with the historic preservation committee of St. George to ensure that the structures would appropriately reference historic vernacular details, while also being modern in form and function. Project stakeholders placed a particular emphasis on the new Advenire Hotel, a Marriott Autograph Collection offering which subtly references the historic Erastus ‘Snow House’ Hotel which once sat on the adjacent corner. The 39,172 SF Advenire Hotel consists 60 well-appointed guest rooms on four-levels, covered parking and a rooftop spa/terrace.

They also seem to be making a lot of progress with the restoration and upgrades of the Historic St. George L.D.S. Temple. Here's a few of the
more recent photos taken by local enthusiasts.

The new landscape design will be a welcome focus on the
beautiful approach sightline of the Historic Structure.

https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2...y=50&width=640

The new Temple annex under constuction will be much larger. It will
reject the former minimilist contemporary design of the previous annex
in favor of a faithful replication of the historic structure itself. While
creating an attractive approach at its own entry, it will be cleverly
hidden from the Historic approach at the front by the new landscape
design.

New Science Building For Dixie State University, Under Construction

This February 2020 photo is of the upcoming new Temple site. What I found interesting is the surrounding evidence of the explosive growth of metro St. George. It will be interesting to see how this hyper-growth affects the additions to
Dixie State University. I also hope we'll continue to see a lot of focus on further development in the downtown core.

Did any of you notice that the first 3 buildings in the immediate vicinity are all lds church buildings?

Deek1978 Nov 17, 2020 10:43 PM

Yes, if I recall correctly all that land is owned by the church. The farmed portion is leased to farmers in the area. I could be wrong, but I believe the land for the temple was used because a lease expired and the farmer didn't want to renew it.

New hospital coming to Washington County. It doesn't state it in the article, but it is going off of exit 13 (Washington Parkway) on the north west side of the freeway.

https://www.stgeorgeutah.com/news/ar.../#.YFy3_tKSmUl

https://www.stgeorgeutah.com/wp-cont...-2-3.24.21.jpg

The whole area off that exit is blowing up with the new Best Western, another planned hotel, new restaurants, and an auto mall on the south west side (and a rumored grocery anchored shopping center, but no confirmation of that yet).

To the east is Grapevine Crossing. I haven't heard anything about this in over a year, but there is some dirt moving currently, looks to be utility work.
https://www2.mtnwest.com/finalflyers...Doug_flyer.pdf

To the north of the planned hospital there is a super expensive housing development planned up against the red rock hills there.

Further down Washington Parkway there are a a number of new multifamily and senior housing projects in various stages of development.

I think it's a good idea to post anything in the Southern portion of the State here Orlando. I love hearing about Southern Utah.
