If they want any chance with voters they better get going on what they plan on selling to the public soon. Otherwise I'm seeing Raiders black and silver riding into San Diego's NFL future. Lol |

If anyone's interested, Cory Briggs will take part in an "Ask Me Anything" question and answer session on reddit's San Diego page on Sunday, April 3 at 6pm. It will be mainly about the Citizen's Initiative, but he may answer questions on other topics as well.
Thought the San Diegans on this forum might want to come up with some good questions for him. Any ideas? www.reddit.com/r/sandiego Official Link to Thread |
California Theater Tower Proposal
Really cool residential tower proposed to replace the abandoned 9 story California Theater at 4th and C.
Overture: 40 story, 282 residential unit tower that would replicate part of the California Theater at ground level, including a new California Theater Sign and Marquee. If no delays (Ha!), demolition could occur in a year with completion in the beginning of 2019. Full story and pictures... http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/...ower-proposed/ |

Not in love with the design so hopefully it changes a bit in the next 2 years |

California Theatre Tower
I think the tower looks awesome, especially in light of what it will be replacing.

The proposed tower is only OK design-wise (designed by a firm that is capable of good work, as with their 888 S. Olive in LA), but it would be a huge improvement over the sad California Theater that is a drag on the surrounding area.
Too bad they think that in order to mollify SOHO they have to "re-create" fake facades of the old building. Very un-dignified way for the California to end its days -- better to tear it down, put it out of its misery and let it rest in peace than to have it live on as a pastiche (and I am one who believes that, generally, historic buildings lend a lot to the cityscape and should be preserved!). |
