GUANGZHOU | Pearl River Tower | 1,013 FT / 309 M | 70 FLOORS
This one's amazing!

Yep, nice design!
|
Wind pressure is going to be huge.
|
Surprisingly it wont! The tower is designed in three sections with two wind passages throughout the height. I love this tower. There are a few renderings with a pod hanging from the structure but I've never seen it the whole building with the pod just the pod.
|
^^^ There was actually a 3D model of this in the Contemporary Art Museum in Chicago last year. Apparently the Architect is SOM Chicago or something. Also, those gigantic wind holes are going to have huge turbines in them to generate electricity from the immense wind pressures this buildings shape will create...
Wish I would have taken pics of that model while it was there... |
I didn't know about the turbines.. I thought it was just going to be open space with a plaza or something like that but I guess it wouldn't make sense wasting that energy source. Isn't this supposed to be the first building with the world with zero energy consumption? Well, yes it will consume but it will all be from natural sources.
Found some more renderings online: http://www.architetturaedesign.it/wp...iver-tower.jpg source. And actually there is a model on Sketchup by one of our members. I forgot. Here's an image: http://www.plainview3d.com/Sustainab...lRiver_180.jpg source. |
Another amazing supertall for China.
|
Posted by zorg on SSC, this model shows a good number of supertalls all going up in this area. Most don't have threads here.

Woah! That's great city planning! Those buildings look really nice and seem to compliment each other. And the fact that not all buildings have fancy intricate shapes makes the area look even better. Hope the twins are built too, they would look amazing! Bit it'd look weird with just one.. And the parks/large vegetation is great though!
|
Amazing cluster of highrises.

That area looks awesome, I can't wait to see it finished. I too am also happy about the greenery, it's going to compliment the concrete paradise just great.
|
Is that bamboo I see?
|
yep, bamboo is eco friendlier than metal (some species grow 6ft a day), but its usage is due to its lightweight and flexibility, especially in high winds. Its used all over Asia.
Oh yeh, its also stronger than steel. |
Ok, it makes sense now.
I remember seeing it used on construction sites in HK, too. |
