Good view of the old Tuckett Tobacco factory just above the BoE building.

I like the 4 storey white building to the left (West) of the BoE. It is Hamilton Store Fixtures and it has windows! Not like now with the shity metal clading on it with no windows. I wish they would remove it all and refurbish the outside.

^Good eye. Yeah, that would be tremendous.

Still miss the Board building, though what has replaced it seems decent enough.

^I've often walked down King William and imagined that clock tower rising before me...

ScreamingViking Jan 17, 2015 4:16 AM

What a vista that would have made.

Let's have fun with one.

For those of you that have not seen this on Facebook yet, where is this?

Dr Awesomesauce Jan 19, 2015 12:05 AM

^Hunter St facing East.

The only clue is the old station. Otherwise, it's totally unrecognisable.

Good one.

The Gore Jan 19, 2015 12:23 AM

Tough one - Ferguson Avenue?

Yup! The description reads:

Quote:

...the TH&B station was prominant on the landscape; and that numerous watchtowers were stationed where various streets crossed the rail lines.
and then...

Hunter Street East looking West towards James Street South, ca 1910. The old TH&B station is on the right. Original view may be from east of John south of tracks.

The old TH&B station being torn down after the construction of the new station in 1933. The old station would partly occupy lanes on Hunter Street if it was still around today.

^Wow! That's the first time I've seen the two standing side by side. Love the Union Jack.

Wow, I never would have guessed this was looking west on Hunter. I knew there was an older station, but not that it was across the street from the existing one.

So weird seeing houses on on Hunter St. there. They must have been demolished when the tracks were elevated? (and I'm guessing the tracks were moved a bit further south)

^Must have been a massive project - the tunnel too.

Imagine the hand-wringing and mudslinging if such a project were under debate today. :D
