Hope they get an updated render soon cause that one sure is ugly, but excited to see this moving forward to the board approval step. For a second I thought it changed to a single tower design, glad it's still 2 towers as previously planned.

Unreal to think, even 10yrs ago, that you'd ever see developments like this in Journal Square.

The 3rd tower is the 30 Journal Square (50 floors).

^Unless that's an old rendering of 30 Journal Square the orientation has completely changed. That image almost looks like the tower rises from the streetwall possibly replacing the Jersey Journal building?

Maybe, maybe not. It's inclusion in some multi family real estate conference .pdf doesn't mean much.

The new design is dramatically better than the old design.

Anyone wealthy enough to afford such luxury with Manhattan views is going to be very happy! :D

This was at the Planning Board yesterday. I don't know if it was approved, but likely was. We will find out in a few days.

I hope like-minded folks showed up at the meeting yesterday and advocated for a taller building. :D

It was unanimously approved by the planning board. It's up for state tax credits on Nov 13 and may pursue a tax abatement from the city. The good news is this one is moving. My guess is they will break ground in the spring.

It's all about transportation. Journal Square has it all, it was only a matter of time before this type of development sprung up around it. The waterfront developments in Jersey City don't feel too JC, but Journal Square is at the heart of it.

The state Economic Development Authority today approved $93 million in New Jersey tax credits for One Journal Square, the high-rise proposed for a long-vacant lot adjacent to the PATH transportation hub in Jersey City.

The $205 million high-rise, which could house up to 744 residential units, will receive $34 million in tax breaks over 20 years. A separate tax break totaling $54 million over 10 years will go to WeWork, the trendy office space provider that will be a tenant in the tower's 101,000 square feet of office space.

New Jersey awarded tax breaks totaling more than $116 million to three North Jersey projects Friday, including a Jersey City tower that could bring more than 1,500 new jobs to the city, and two that would bring 330 jobs from New York City to Secaucus.

The Jersey City project, a 56-story tower in Journal Square, the once-bustling heart of the city that has for years fallen on hard times, aims to jump-start development around the square in the way that state and city tax breaks have helped develop the city’s waterfront.

The $400 million building would include 744 apartments, 78,000 square feet of retail space and 100,000 square feet of office space, according to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, which administers the state’s incentive programs and awarded the tax credits at its regular monthly meeting Friday. The tax break was awarded to help only the lower 11 stories of the project, which the include retail and commercial space, and parking.

Developers say the project would create 1,530 permanent jobs on a site that has for years been the focus of development efforts that have not come to fruition. Sitting right next to the Journal Square Path Station, with its short ride to downtown New York, the project would provide the kind of transportation- friendly, urban area that companies and employees increasingly favor, rather than North Jersey’s suburban campuses.

Although the tax credit awards are offers, and not yet accepted, a representative of the Jersey City development team sounded like they are ready to go ahead.

Adam Altman, managing member of Ridgefield Park-based The KABR Group, which is developing the site in partnership with Kushner Companies of New York, said the state’s support is key to getting a project going.

“The Journal Square area now is very undeveloped and a somewhat blighted area,” he said, adding that as a result the developers can’t charge high enough rent to cover the costs of the projects. “Without the incentives, a project of this size and magnitude would not be economically feasible.

“The project will now go and create tremendous economic expansion,” he said, adding that he expects the project to break ground next year.
