I'd love it if this tower could acquire some more air rights. Right now, we're looking at 1550 ft to highest occupied floor, making roof height around 1600 ft. Some more air rights, and we could be looking at NYC's new tallest building by structural height. A part of me even hopes for NYC's first megatall, but thats a longshot.

HOLY COW! It is hard to keep up with everything going up in New York City, I just found out about this project and how tall Hudson Yards is going to be. This building looks like the biggest threat yet of unseating the Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago as far as highest roof and occupied floor in the United States. If I am understanding this correctly it will have residential space that will probably be higher above street level than the Sears Tower Skydeck! On one hand I am a bit envious that NYC is doing so well and projects here like the Chicago Spire were shelved but on the other hand it makes me look forward to travelling to NYC when the WTC opens and also visiting the construction sites of these other supertalls. With NYC at it's historic peak population and density, low crime, supertalls going up with condos selling in the upper tens of millions of dollars in spite of a lingering bad economy, there must be something in the water in NYC!:sly: In Chicago everyone is always skeptical of new supertall proposals getting actually built but given what I have been reading about NYC of today I actually think there is a good chance this will be built as proposed.

Yes, this will be built, it's an "as of right" tower. Permits for the building have already been filed (with the DOB) which give us a height of 1,550' to the highest occupied floor (85th). So with 3 mechanical floors above that and some roof element (crown) this will most likely break the 1650 ft / 500 m mark.

Demolition and excavation is well under way, so by late 2013 / early 2014, construction will be in full swing.

For more info on New York supertalls feel free to visit my thread "New York Supertalls" (see my signature). :)

They were digging like crazy today. All kinds of excavation activity today, with workers buzzing about.

Most likely not full drawings of the tower itself.

Hey NYguy, is it under approved category as of that paper?

The building doesn't have to be approved. They're lining things up for construction. It's the process of getting construction permits. There's a long list of things to be signed off on before anything can be built according to the buildings department.

Amen to that! But judging by their recent work I think its safe to say it will be a stunner. I would like to see this one break new heights too, 1700ft+. You can always dream bigger. :haha:

Yeah, check out their website. I just spent half an hour in awe looking at their designs. This is going to be an icon.

Wow, there are some very impressive designs that really make a statement! :D

I can't wait to see what they come up with for New York as the tallest in the city! :notacrook:

You know that this is going to be a landmarked tower!
