Ciudad de Panama (2019)

Happy New Year SSP! As I type this I'm still in Panama City for another day, I've been here about 10 days. It's a great, great city for a whole laundry list of reasons! The people are some of the nicest I've ever met in any city. The quality of life in the city is very high, from the squeaky clean tap water to the booming economy. There is poverty like anywhere else but the city center and most of the surrounding areas are remarkably safe at any time of day. I was the only person I saw with an actual camera in tow but I felt comfortable.

This was my first time visiting, this set features photos from multiple neighborhoods in the city proper, the rainforest and the Summit Zoo.

This is a model of Old Panama before it was destroyed by pirates 500 years ago, not to be confused with Casco Viejo (the 2nd city rebuilt after the pirate siege). There's some photos of the ruins scattered in this set.

Thanks for checking them out! The Old Panama ruins are NE of the city center along the Pacific coast.

Had to look up who that was, didn't realize that's who the statue was lol. I didn't see much evidence of prizefighting/boxing being a big thing in Panama so that's very interesting

Looking at the pictures (and metro system) one would think that Panama City is much bigger than it actually is.

Miami's metro area has more people than the whole country of Panama. Panama City's metro size peers in the US are places like Fresno and Tucson. And Honolulu, which it kind of resembles.

You captured the spirit of the city well, would love to visit! Of the Central American cities I have been to San Salvador and Guatemala City in 2016, even these cities didn't feel that dangerous but I'm sure Panama is safer. And more modern with lots of skyscrapers of course.

Great beautiful city. I would love to go back. It didn’t have a metro when I was there in 2001. I took a chance and rode around in the diablo Rojos!

That’s amazing how well they manage to rebuild everything here after the 2019 disaster
