So no renders?...why bother even having a news conference

Anyway here is the civil drawings which show pretty much the same layout as the drawings uploaded here a few months ago:

I'm guessing the largest will be Dollarama?...And Shoppers will be E?

F is likely Starbucks. B the Gasbar/Convience store.

There are renderings on the work site billboard. Strange that no one has posted it online yet?? You're likely right that B will be a gasbar/convenience, the drawings look like gas pumps in front of building B. I did hear that Irving was the going there. It seems to be rather close to the Irving station further down Topsail... or may be its not.

I think we can all visualize without renders what this development is going to look like :haha:

With the Irving being just down the road it be kinda strange for them to have another one so close by. My guess would have been an Ultramar as it's the only one I can think of not in that area.

CBC are calling this a 'shoppers paradise'. I think they mean, it's a Shoppers in Paradise! :)

On a side note, since we are talking about Shopper Drug Mart. Anyone have any idea what is going on with Empire/Freshwater Road location? I thought the new one would have been started long ago.

I’m gonna guess that “A” is Shoppers and “E” is Dollarama as most Dollaramas are not that big. Guess we’ll find out over the next several months.

Yeah that's probably right. I kind of went back and forth on which is which...for some reason in my head I thought the newer Dollaramas being built were fairly large..

I glanced at the renders driving by but couldn't really make anything out. I don't get why the reporters who went to cover the news announcement didn't bother to grab a pic? It's literally their job...

CBC has updated their article with a render:

I like the look.

Go figure NTV would have some better renders if the Paradise development.
Here is the link.

Seems like all the renders are based on the civil drawings that were on here a few months ago which are slightly different than the drawings shown from yesterday.

Also at the end of that NTV news segment they mention that this company is also planning another retail center in the St. John's area with details in the fall...

Noticed that construction has been happening inside the old Golf Town on White Rose Dr the last couple of weeks, not sure if anything is happening or not.

Walked through the Mount Pearl Walmart the other and saw staff filling the new refrigerated showcases with cakes and pies...the same cakes and pies they have stacked on tables and have had for a year or more. I was hoping for fresh meat and fresh baked goods like you see in the States. What a disappointment! Hopefully the cakes and pies are just a place holder.

The superstore Wal Marts have an in-house bakery, so you should be able to get fresh breads/buns/etc. I don't believe they will have a butcher though so it may be best to avoid it for fresh meats.

Malreynolds Aug 4, 2018 11:26 AM

they will have "Fresh" Meats and stuff like that but it wont be there till close to launch. But instead of leaving coolers empty for months they are filling them up with random stuff until said time. The "Fresh" produce section was filled with pepsi coke and other drinks. And yes the cakes are placeholders but they also stay fresher in a refrigerator then just sitting on a warm shelf so its a win win for walmart at the moment.

Also found out from someone who works at Mount pearl that they are trying to source as much as possible from local Newfoundland business such as chicken from county ribbon

The new Orange Store Gas statiion and what I think will eventually be another new Dairy Queen popped up pretty quickly thanks to prefab concrete. I noticed that there is also what looks to be a drive-thru window on the Orange Store side too.

According to this tweet it is indeed going to be a Dairy Queen:

I walked through Walmart in Mount Pearl. It's coming along. I'm hoping all that white paint inside and out is just a primer. It's pretty cold looking -except for that overkill of shiny blue near the entrance. I guess they are trying to make the entrance look a little more grand as the mainland supercentres have 2 entrances and ours will only have the one. Our Newfoundland Supercentres are a watered down version of the Walmart Supercentre. Much of the rest of Canada get the real ones that I've been in and they are about 200,000 square feet. Even Charlottetown and Sydney have full size Supercentres. Oh well. I'm not surprised.
