It's not super easy going West from Golden, as the whole stretch to the Donald bridge has a steep slope on one side and rail tracks/Columbia River on the other side. After that there are some straight and fairly flat areas that could be looked at for sure.

Yeah, west of Golden seems like it will be one of the easier stretches to twin ... relatively speaking for BC of course.

The Saturday Creek portion of the Hope Princeton reconstruction is done. Just the Sunday Summit to Saturday Creek left to do (should be done by the end of the year). A good 5-7 km of road realignment and reconstruction happening here.

Yup it would be nice, but at least they have done quite a bit in most of the worst area, it seems from the 1960s to 1990 or so very little improvements were done.

Not construction, but a video:

So during my trip in Canada this month, I had to go to the Okanagan Valley. Here is a video I captured descending into and through Osoyoos via the #3 before continuing north along the 97. The decent into Osoyoos is maybe my favorite section of road in Canada. Sorry if it is a little shaky, the pavement needs a little TLC ;)

Has the Kicking Horse Canyon project been totally abandoned ?

Hey. Great Vid! Since I was a teen, and EVERY time since then, when in Osoyoos... have always climbed Anarchist Mtn. to the "look-out". Best view in Canada.

That said, Keremeos to Osoyoos via BC-3 heading eastward toward Osoyoos... has always been my fave BC cruise. Once around Richter Pass... one sees the valley below, the lake, and the distant orchards while descending.

The best.

BREAKING NEWS
Final Hwy 1 phase will happen

posted Jul 8, 2016 at 10:41 AM

Transportation Minister Todd Stone was in Golden late last month, and gave an update on the final phase of the Kicking Horse Canyon project, which he says will be underway within the next five years.

The final phase will cover four kilometres of Highway 1 east of Golden, and is estimated at $450 million.

“I’ve been a broken record about this project,” said Stone during a meeting with the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m very optimistic we’ll have something to say soon.”

The Province has been discussing the project with the federal government, stressing the national importance of the highway, which keeps the $2 billion trade economy moving.

“I think we’re winning that argument,” added Stone.

Thanks!

I also love the #3 Keremeos to Osoyoos. Just amazing views with the steep mountains sides, dry sage hills, and lush orchards in the valley. As a kid that section meant, "almost at the campground!"

Here is another video I did from Okanagan Falls to Penticton. If you have never taken Eastside Road, do it!

Yeah, the south Okanagan is just full of amazing drives.

That's Awesome news - Thanks!
I hadn't seen an update on the website for so long I was getting a little concerned.

I put together one recently too. This is highway 97 from Vernon to Lake Country:

Awesome video! Very clear, still can't seem to upload a clear video format on my youtube. Won't except my higher quality .MOV files.

Yeah, that new section of highway is really nice. Drove it for the first time ever myself this August. Was very impressed.

240glt Sep 16, 2016 6:11 PM

Yeah I've driven it several times now from the airport to Vernon. It's fantastic and probably knocks up to 10 minutes off the drive between Oyama and Windfield. It's now about a 20 minute drive

This would be sweet.

Driverless highway from Vancouver to Seattle proposed
Automomous vehicles could eventually take over I-5/Hwy 99 route

CBC Sep 20, 2016

Quote:

Vancouver and Seattle should be connected by a driverless highway, according to some high-tech entrepreneurs.

The proposal, which involves dedicating at least one lane on the I-5 from Seattle to Highway 99 in Richmond, B.C., is a pitch that comes from Tom Alberg, a board member of Amazon, Craig Mundie, a former Microsoft executive, along with two other high tech industry experts.

The idea was presented yesterday in Vancouver.

Today, Microsoft founder Bill Gates appears at the Emerging Cascadia Innovation Corridor Conference to discuss ideas to better link the high-tech industries in the two cities.

"Improved transportation from Seattle to Vancouver is not merely about leisure and travel; it's about making sure Seattle and Vancouver maintain and improve their competitive edge in the modern economy," said a report issued by the group.

Don't put too much into this... they also floated the idea of a high-speed rail link. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see something like hyperloop connecting the entire western seaboard but unlikely in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the comments. Yes I was very impressed with that highway too. I wasn't expecting it when I drove through the area. I upload MOV files too. I just use the Youtube profile built-in to Apple Compressor. I think it's h264 codec with AAC audio with a video bitrate of 14mbits/sec.

Continuing through the lower mainland on the TCH-1. I've driven all the way from Winnipeg.
