I have to say it doesn't really look like SoCal, neither in topography nor flora- looks like coniferous trees on the background ridges. More like NoCal. A mystery indeed!

Help IDing a location from a movie

I hope it's okay to post this query here - I'm trying to identify a location from the 1982 Death Wish II movie, which was filmed entirely in LA.

Below are a couple of screengrabs from the film, please pipe up if you recognize the landmark (I'd imagine it's very obvious to many people reading!). Thanks!

I posted Julius Shulman pictures of the Triforium almost two years ago in post #33262. Those images date from 1975, so fairly close to the time when Death Wish II was filmed.

Eddy87 appears to be using Imageshack. Their 35-second help video about posting links is here. It seems to cover alternate sizes near the end.

Is this the method you use, e_r? I know that you're an Imageshack user.

I also noted that Eddy's post contains extra IMG tags. I'm not familiar with Imageshack's linking methods, but I assume that if you select "Forum" as the link type, it automatically includes these. In practice that means that you don't need to use the "Insert Image" button - just paste the link code directly into the reply window. That's the way Photobucket works, so maybe someone can confirm that Imageshack does too.

Eddy - once you figure it out, you can always go back and edit your post on the previous page to use a smaller version of the image. Note that Imageshack automatically includes a link back to your original image in the code, so anyone wanting to see the full-size image just needs to click on it. Feel free to send me a PM if you need more help.

My guess is that it's Manhattan Beach, Oregon, and the railroad is the Pacific Railway and Navigation Co. (Per Wikipedia). My father had family all up and down the Oregon and Washington coast.

I think the main reason why we all thought or think its in our Manhatan Beach, is because of the mile/street marker (the small white pole). I remember a few years ago trying to spot as many markers near Valley (where this pic might of been taken). My neighbor is a volunteer at the Hermosa Museum, ill see if he has any leads.

The tower appears to be a perch for several pigeons. Ahhh, a use for everything. Maybe they like the music.

Maybe odinthor can identify that ground cover. It sure looks like Oregon beachfront to me. I checked the topo maps with inconclusive results. If it is Oregon, we're looking south and there are hills in the field of view.

Hey, here's an ID query—I've had this slide for a while and always figured it was the Aida in Bunker Hill on Flower.

...until I actually scanned it and peered at it and compared to actual images of the Aida at 247.

So, who's an idea where this was? The address from what I can muster was "343."

idk but it looks like those numbers might really be 247 in a fancy script? The 1956 CD has 23 Aidas but only one that's not someone's first name. Agree with you on the picture differences, but your color one looks newer than the b/w ones - a remodel?

Looking at your picture more closely, it looks like there is a gap between the Aida and its neighbor on the left. Here is the 1950ish Sanborn of the corner of Flower and W 3rd:

Maybe the picture was taken looking north on 3rd St? the gap lines up, but it doesn't explain the street number.

When I posted that picture of the abandoned church...for sure I though y'all would be excited to see the inside..except I got no reaction,no feedback...wow tough crowd, think I'll stick to the urbex crowd..seems like everyone in this joint is more interested in deciphering turn of the century street scenes... p.s thanks hossc and ethereal_city for the tips ✌🏽️

odinthor, it looks like the rich bankers up in Los Angeles might have pulled a reverse "Owens Valley" on the local farmers by flooding their peatland.

The animosity between the peatland farmers and the Bolsa Chica Club continued for quite some time
