When it was 1,421', the highest occupied residential floor was at 1,180'. Now it's 10ft taller, so my guess would be ~1,200'.

slightly more comfortable with these weird proportions . . . mostly because
something about the building is looking more "imposing" to me as a form . . .

Where else in the world can one find 1,400 continuous feet of terra cotta? The detailing in this building looks absolutely insane. Nothing else like it on earth.

They got the inspiration from the Woolworth Building, currently also the home of SHoP Architects.

The progress on this project, or lack thereof, is slightly frustrating.

^^TBH, it must be really frustrating logistically to work in such a narrow & cramped pit. I would be getting claustrophobic ripping off my clothes yelling to everyone to step the Eff back.

as well as the complexity of the crown . . .

I agree. When I walked by yesterday, there was a lot going on. Anyway, it seems that in recent months, much of the focus has been on demolishing the portion of the 58th St building.

Yes, they have been working very hard putting a lot of overtime. And the work is progressing even faster now since they hired second construction worker last December.

Yes, most of the current work is in the existing building.

This site will probably take a bit longer to rise than the other 57th street towers, as there's still lots of work prepping the older building.

Race to the skies! Time to get an updated camera. 2017 will be a sight. :slob:

Top of the Rock will be a great location for some good camera zooming action.

Hey, ny guy, I know what I see on the renders, just like you, and to me it won't be on the same iconic level as the crysler. I do not understand what you mean by, " ..building will be far more than you know"? Sounds a bit patronizing honestly. Do you know something that we don't, do you have other renders that I have not seen? It obviously is a great building, but it will never be considered the icon the crysler is by most in my opinion. That's more than just a design issue too. There are many reasons, including heritage. The Chrysler is the epitome of Art Deco beauty from the period. This tower attemps to use elements of an older style and it works very well but does not match the old beauty. I think the average member of the public will agree. I'd bet a good amount that in 50 years the Chrysler will still be considered by architectural historians as being on a level above any of these new towers going up today

And in reference to your last point, Anybody spouting personel attacks on me can go to hell. I won't be wasting my time reading them, life is too valuable for that nonsense.
