Looking North. Another month or two at most and construction will reach street level. Notice bases for 2 cranes.

I've been out of town, but I've seen there's been a height increase...

Oh, there it is above.

The new redesign makes it look almost similar to the Sears (Willis) Tower.

forj May 11, 2015 4:39 PM

wow so they tacked 21 feet onto total height? i guess they decided to just say screw keeping it respectfully 1 foot lower than WTC.. which is good because there is really no reason for that. and 1530 roof height! so a whole 80 feet taller than Willis Tower roof. this thing is a beast!

It seems Barnett knows the gravity of the situation. In fact he may have been throwing out phony information all along to throw people off the tack. When the final numbers come in the tower could actually be 1,805 feet tall. ;)

This is probably good for Nordstrom as well. Now they can say they have the newest department store in the county's tallest building.

Sweet, Im glad they are breaking that stupid 1776 limit.

I would say it looks more like a taller Bloomberg tower IMO

The other designs in that part of town have been so good about not putting fake antennas on top. What gives? What is it about a sensible flat roof that just screams out "Great, now put a functionless 265 foot pole on top"?

Zapatan May 11, 2015 9:12 PM

Sweetness!

A real 1,500 footer... and it will deservedly be the tallest in the world outside Asia!

I wonder if the floor count also increased?

damn.. that is something.

Also i think as far as antenna/spires go, this one is pretty good. it has some design to it and is pretty substantial.. doesnt really bother me.. that 1530 ft. number is what im really happy about

Told yall.

Its a good day in U.S. skyscraper city. Not only spire but roof. ;)

A prayer I made up:

Our father (gary barnett) who art in Time Warner
Hallow be thy name
The NYC come
Thy will rise
on earth as it is to city
Give us our daily skyscraper
and forgive those who are nimbys
as we forgive those who use shadows against us
and lead us not into the abyss
but deliver us from NIMBYism

Amen

im glad they broke the symbolic wtc height, but the floor height is the thing here.

chris08876 May 11, 2015 10:07 PM

Seems like its more to keep the spire proportions at the right level versus making it longer and keeping the roof the same.

With clearer renderings, it also appears quite bulky which is a plus I think. Surely it will dominate all. Visually from a far, with the elevation, it will be closer to 1900 feet. As viewed from lets say nearby Hoboken.

That's an incredible looking building.

As for the new height, I'm indifferent at this point. Even if it will officially surpass 1WTC in both roof height and to the pinnacle, 1WTC will always be the more iconic of the two. :)

And if there were to be another building to do it, what better place than the best city in the world?!?

The height increase makes this tower a beast indeed. I think you are right, the design is not iconic like WTC1 at all, having really only it's height as it's primary attribute. It is a massive tower with a rather mediocre design surrounded by more iconic towers. I am annoyed that they didn't go with something less boxy as this appears like a throwback design. WTC has an iconic monumental form and interesting geometry. Here, though the glass looks like it could redeem the dull massing perhaps, it does look pretty well done. Although it is exciting to have the tallest tower, i am not sure it will be a hit with the public as it appears rather generic - like a bloomberg tower on steroids or a spruced up 70's box.

Also, the TWC center looks like such a missed opportunity to have built both a better design and a taller one. It looks like a baby tree in the forest of giants.

hunser May 11, 2015 11:07 PM

Add the 80ft EL, and you'll get ~ 1,900 footer. :haha:

Finally we'll have a new tallest, by spire and roof height. So glad Barnett decided to go taller than 1WTC. Now I want a 2,000 footer ... Hudson Yards, Midtown East? :D

Exciting Times!

EDIT: The thread title NEW YORK | 1,795 FT pinnacle / 1,530 FT roof would have been labeled as VISION or FANTASY just a few years ago. :haha:
