YUL March stats are out.

+5.2% for 1,315,137

1st quarter: +4.1% for 3,667,515

LeftCoaster Apr 24, 2015 10:14 PM

Great growth for YUL, strong and steady.

Love those pics of YYC too, starting to look like a big time airport.

lubicon Apr 24, 2015 10:15 PM

YUL should retake 3rd spot from YYC this year if current trends hold up.

My parents hate Air Canada as much as I do.

Anyhow, they're in TO now on a very long layover (is that the word? I forget) flying back from the States.

Dad emailed me just to praise the Air Canada staff he's had to deal with there today. They're currently in the Maple Leaf Lounge enjoying the drinks and food. :haha:

Maybe they've changed the way they treat non-business flyers?

i have a question, i am flying from edmonton to new york with a 3 hour layover in toronto, and am wondering will i go through customs in toronto before i depart or when i land in new york? i am not sure how that works - i am flying on july 1 too so am wondering how that will affect travelling if things will be normal or do they get the day off in toronto

In February, I'm flying Air Canada, economy class, from Toronto... all the way to Tel Aviv. 11 hour flight. Wish me luck.

As Boris said, you will clear Customs in Toronto. The fact you are travelling July 1 is irrelevant, they work 365 days/year.

SpongeG Apr 30, 2015 10:37 PM

thanks, i figured thats how it worked, last time i flew out of edmonton to the states customs was already closed so had to do it in texas

So far my parents have done:

TO - STJs (can't land, fog) - MTL - STJs (can't land, fog) - MTL - NO FLIGHT; CANCELLED

But good luck. They're treating people well now.

I don't think my parents were flying first class. If so, it's airmiles. And they were treated exceptionally well. They're raving about it. Usually they get the roach treatment from Air Canada just like I do.

I am not a big fan of Air Canada (prefer WestJet in Canada) but have flown BA a few times internationally and I would take AC over BA any day!

Oh man... I've gone from Vancouver to Johannesburg via Hong Kong, which is a pair of 12-13 hour flights, and from LA to Sydney once at 15 hours, but you win. 17 straight hours...

esquire May 1, 2015 3:08 AM

^ Doesn't anyone ever roadtrip or ride long distance trains? After enough 30-odd hour train trips to Toronto or Vancouver, a 13-hour flight to Asia is nothing. Board plane, eat, movie, nap, movie, eat, read, nap again, a bit more TV aaaaand you're there!

Johnny Aussie May 1, 2015 4:22 AM

Entertaining thread with f-bombs and even c-bombs thrown in....

Had the best trip in NFLD... drove all the way from St John's to Port aux Basques and back and didn't run into them types of peoples ye described.... mate.

Edit: looks like the moderators have cleaned up the comments.... rightly so.

.... Meanwhile on the West Coast....

YVR March pax stats

Overall up 8.1% (YTD up 6.0%)
Domestic up 4.1% (YTD 2.7%)
Transborder up 15.3% (YTD up 14.0%)
Asia Pacific up 10.5% (YTD up 3.3%)
Europe up 7.8% (YTD up 10.5%)
Misc Int'l up 4.0% (YTD up 3.9%)

Overall traffic is up ~ 124,000 from March 2014.
Of that over 60,000 is due to the increase in transborder, 23,000 in Asia Pacific traffic and almost 22,000 from the domestic uptick.

The int'l / domestic split is now over 50% international by quite a bit too.

Will follow that advice.

I got direct flights Pearson to Ben Gurion which surprises me, I didn't think there would be direct flights (it was actually one of the cheapest itinerary options too!).

I'll be leaving from Kingston (I'll be a full time Kingstonian by then), so I've got to get myself to Toronto. I've given myself a pretty generous layover there (train arrives in Toronto at 11:30am, flight leaves Pearson at 5pm) so as long as the train isn't badly delayed I should be able to get a nice lunch somewhere in Toronto. I'll also get to ride the UPX which will be fun.

Don't both Air Canada and El Al fly that route?

Yes, El Al flies it (ELY30/29) with a 767 once every 4 or 5 days, while Air Canada (ACA84/85) flies it 5 times weekly with a 787.

Nice to see continuing growth at YWG after a pretty good 2014 as well.

Haven't been there in yonks but would be keen to check out the new terminal one of these days.
