TORONTO | Maryon Tower | 2,250' Pinnacle / 1,650' Roof | 140 FLOORS | NEVER BUILT

Eaton's / John Maryon Tower was a proposed supertall 140-storey office skyscraper, to be built in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 1971, Eaton's was going to team up with a developer named John Maryon to build a 1,650 ft. (503 m) tower in the College Park area of Downtown Toronto. With a 600 ft. (183 m) communication mast added to the roof, the total proposed height was 2,250 ft (686 m). Plans for the tower were cancelled, because building a structure of this height was considered impossible at the time of its planning. This skyscraper was planned two years before the Sears Tower was completed, and five years before the CN Tower was completed. Had the tower been built, it would have been the world's tallest building to this day. Toronto had visions of grandeur during this era; it eventually got the tall building they so desired when the CN Tower was constructed. A tower at this site was not a new idea. In the late 1920s, Eaton's College Street (now called College Park) was proposed as a 38-storey tower. In 1978, a residential condo tower was built near College Park, followed by a 30-storey office tower in 1984. |
looks sorta ugly anyways. something more elegant and I would be saddenedth?at Toronto never got it.
Speaking of whch, any speculation on how long it will take toronto to upsurt Dubai? didn't take that long to beat moscow. |
I've seen a photo (possibly on here) on John Maryon with a model of this tower, looking very slimey.

Larger than life but 20 times as ugly.
fugliest thing I've seen in awhile. |
Meh...
|
ewww that looks gross.
I hope this doesn't built. It could ruin it's skyline but it depends where this building is. |

Personally, the model is underwhelming, to say the least. |

also, buildings tend not to get built 40 years after they are proposed, ESPECIALLY if the company wanting to build it goes bankrupt and dissipears in those 40 years..... i wish they built it, so toronto could have at least 1 supertall.... (first canadain place is 2 meters off.... why didn't they add 1 more floor??? arrrgggg....) |
^Here's a little something that might make you feel a bit better, I remember for the longest time First Canadian Place was considered 952 feet tall and then years ago they changed it to 978 feet tall (I expect they added the mechanical penthouse and\or elevator roof to the height) which mean't Toronto was about 10 meters shy of having a supertall. Still a bit frustrating but much less so than being denied a supertall by two meters!
That building looks schizophrenic. It looks like Toronto couldn't decide if it wanted a tower or an office building so it tried to get both. Bizarre. A similar, (albeit much shorter) version actually got built in Vancouver a few years later: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...rbourNight.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HarbourNight.jpg |

But really I really hope this doesn't get built. |

Lol

If I was alive then, i would add a few modifications to make it into a more modern kind of skyscraper.
