Yea,when you have well-known buildings under construction,chances are plenty of publicity always accompanies plenty of praise and critiscm but as we know,we only pick up on the latter.

Truth is the original World Trade Center was met with critics. Just like how you criticize the base, or the mast, or the mechanical floors the Twins were just as criticized during their completion.

I am going to quote from Huxtable just to prove a point. Please don't delete this moderators as it's only to prove something.

"The Towers are pure technology, the lobbies are pure schmaltz, and the impact on New York is pure speculation. The windows are so narrow that one of the greatest benefits of a tall building the panorama view out is destroyed. These are great buildings, but they are not great architecture"-Anna Luise Huxtable (NY Times, 1971).

Isn't it the same thing you guys are saying now?

To add to my point, look at the huge amount of projects that are eternally stuck in the "approved" stage, if not have construction on hold (yikes!).


The rule of thumb in NYC, if the building isn't there, it isn't there. I remember hearing that when I was a little kid. The WTC takes this saying to the floor count! NYC is like the king of scrapped-tower proposals!

I doubt any of the current ones we have will get permanently cancelled, some (15 Penn & Sherwood tower most likely) will certainly go dormant (like the WPC), but will return as something else sooner or later.

Also, which supertall will be the next one to start construction?

I think that it will most likely be the Coach Tower, the Girasole or One Hudson Yards. Tower Verre might also start very soon, seeing how succesful One57 was.

Well the Coach Tower is starting in October, so I doubt something starts before that.

Assuming that construction of platforms needed for Hudson Yards North, HY Mixed Use, and Manhattan West don't count, regardless of their tenant situation, I'd say One Hudson Yards.

The Girasole can't start until the 7 train extension is done, and Hudson Yards North and Brookfield's Manhattan West need massive platforms built before the towers can start, so One Hudson Yards has the earliest delivery date to potential tenants. My two cents.

I hope that this design is used for the Sherwood Equities building, I really like the boxyness and how it will contrast with the more crystaline shape of the towers built over the rail yards.
