I wonder how many loyalty customers Porter will entice from Westjet with their more amenity laden flights!

Depends on the pricing.

With Competition flight routes, Air Canada will still do well on the East-West flights in Canada as AC still has a stronghold.

WestJet does alright on West-East flights.

With Porter will see.

Maybe there's some clues from PD's flight numbering.

Here is a list of most flight numbers I found for flight into YYZ. The number are sorted by departure time.

Code:

PD102  YUL-YYZ 7:50am
PD106  YUL-YYZ 9:35am
PD112* YUL-YYZ 12:00pm
PD120* YUL-YYZ 4:20pm
PD126  YUL-YYZ 8:20pm

PD150  YOW-YYZ 8:25am
PD156  YOW-YYZ 9:20am
PD162* YOW-YYZ 11:55am
PD170* YOW-YYZ 3:55pm
PD182* YOW-YYZ 8:10pm
PD188* YOW-YYZ 9:25pm

PD302  YVR-YYZ 6:15am
PD306  YVR-YYZ 2:30pm
PD318  YVR-YYZ 10:55pm

PD400  YEG-YYZ 12:55am
PD402  YEG-YYZ 6:30am
PD408  YEG-YYZ 4:20pm

* Do not operate on all days

So 1xx is Ontario/Quebec flights. Maybe 2xx are Atlantic Canada?

Looking at the gaps, PD reserved enough number for 15x daily flights to YUL, 20x daily to YOW, 10x daily to YVR, and 5x daily to YEG.

Noticed YVR have the entire 3xx series. Maybe for more BC destinations from YYZ? Or more flights from other hubs to YVR?

Since the DH4 flights all uses 2xxx series now, I guess new US flights will be 1xxx... Maybe YVR/YEG/YYC/YWG will each get 100 numbers. So the next thing to watch for is whether YYC start with 500 or 450 or 350...

I wouldn't be surprised if the 100 series at PD is reserved exclusively for the eastern triangle, just like AC does with the 400 series.

Now is definitely the time to pounce on YOW-YYZ. AC still show no signs of restoring hourly service, let alone 1/2 hr during afternoon peak. WS, while showing the route will be 7x next summer and the Q surviving S23, are showing a mere 1x daily in the very preliminary W23 sked in Nov. 23...I imagine WS will settle in at 3-4 daily on the route exclusively with 737s.

I’m not surprised there’s no hourly flights from Ottawa YOW- Toronto YYZ as Eastern Triangle has good Via rail Train /Go Train service & along with alright bus services from Go Transit Bus, Megabus & along with now Rider Express & Red Arrow 2 Western Canada bus companies expanding its service into Eastern Canada.

Basically there’s more transportation competition in Eastern Canada compared to the West!

Plus between YOW-YYZ is about a 5 hours drive. During my 1 week Eastern Canada trip with my parents end of September 2022. If we had more time,we would of made the drive from Toronto- Ottawa -Toronto. As we wanted to visit YOW. But oh well next time ,as 1 week was too short to make it work.

I suspect AC/Jazz can't find the staff to restore hourly service. Tell your kids to train as pilots.

How many jet aircraft is Porter taking delivery of over the next year to cover all the intended launch routes?

I believe the site says 30 jets will be delivered by next year.

Airboy Dec 14, 2022 6:42 PM

I suspect Porter will solidify YEG and YVR then probably start flights to the US out of YVR, Seattle Portland San Fran.

Talking with a family member with Porter. YYC was not on the list anytime soon.

I hope they position some of the Q400 in Vancouver. Connecting Victoria to their new YVR hub with a jet is a bit excessive. I guess you could do the 10 minute flight by jet.

Interesting, why was YYC sort of removed?

If they were to start YVR-SFO/SEA/PDX that would be a recipe for disaster

Yes. Never indicated otherwise. First ever transborder PD routes from YOW.

Did Porter not try MLB (Melbourne, FL) for a short time from YOW and YQG (Windsor, ON)? Perhaps just YOW?

Will this also be the first ever pre-cleared (customs) PD routes as well? Or did the short lived MLB flights from YOW pre-clear?

thenoflyzone Dec 14, 2022 8:27 PM

^ that’s right. And yes, YOW-MLB were most likely pre-cleared.

Air North fly YVR-YYJ with 737 a few times weekly. Flair tried it for a while too.

Flight times would be pretty much the same, half the time on that route is taxing.

Base Dec 14, 2022 9:20 PM

I wonder if they consider adding any Q400s considering Westjet and other are removing some from their fleets.

Not really a requirement but almost any flights they add Q400 service hurts their YTZ op.

Alaska (Horizon) is also parking most of their Q400 fleet replacing it with Embraer 175s.

Should be a good number of Q400 available.
