I think they're estimating based on the previous year. A lot of airports probably haven't released official passenger counts from last year yet.

Fort Mac makes sense, considering that most people going there arrive by plane, and that many people in and out several times per year. People drive between there and Edmonton but otherwise it's very, very far from most of Canada's population.

Its kinda amazing the number of flights that get rerouted there. Plus the number of small executive jets that refuel there. You never know who might stroll down the road some days. Stellone was there one day I was at our office there

Saskatoon's airport looks like Winnipeg's airport. Same architectural firm?

Thunder Bay International had 780,000 passengers in 2013, a new record.

New carriers, destinations, and frequencies

On June 3, Montréal–Trudeau will welcome two new carriers: Turkish Airlines (Istanbul) and Copa Airlines (Panama City). With their extensively developed networks, they will considerably improve Montréal’s connections to several regions of the world, including Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America.

For the summer season, Air Transat is adding Prague to its roster of destinations, and will fly to 20 other European cities: Athens, Basel, Barcelona, Bordeaux, Brussels, Dublin, Istanbul, Lisbon,
London, Lyon, Madrid, Malaga, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Paris, Porto, Rome, Toulouse and Venice.

Lufthansa is launching a new Montréal–Frankfurt route, with five flights per week, in addition to its daily flight to Munich.

New leisure airline Air Canada rouge will be flying to Barcelona, Nice, Rome and Athens for the first time, while its parent, Air Canada, has announced increased capacity on its Brussels, Geneva and London routes.

Air France, Corsair, British Airways, Swiss and KLM will each offer the same level of service as last summer.

Looking at routes to North Africa and the Middle East, Air Algérie has added capacity to its Montréal– Algiers service. Casablanca, Morocco, Amman, Jordan, and Doha, Qatar, are the other cities currently served by direct flights out of Montréal–Trudeau.

Vacationers flying to the Caribbean will once again be well served, with a choice of 22 non-stop destinations, while Air Canada rouge will take over some routes previously flown by Air Canada.

All in all, this summer Montréal–Trudeau will have direct flights to 112 international destinations (the total including winter-season destinations is more than 130), ranking it second among Canadian airports for the number of direct destinations.

Good news re COPA, although it's a shame it won't be a daily service. Astonishingly good connections with COPA to Latin American and the Caribbean destinations out of PTY these days.

TK is a nice addition in YUL. I've wanted to try their J class product for a while and soon won't have to go out of my way to do so.

I'm not surprised by Fort McMurray at all. A friend of mine works for AC and when they put out the news for their YMM-YYZ-YYT flight back when it first started, he said they sold a few months worth of seats in a couple days. That was when the route was only going to be limited to Saturdays. They moved it to every day for the high season, yet again - massive sales and the route selling out. So they tried it year round and the rest is history - now three daily flights for AC plus 2 for WJ and they both do very well.

So the success at YMM has an impact for YYT - since most of the people are flying there or to YDF (Deer Lake). I'd be interested to see how that airport's #s look because I'm sure they've seen quite an increase. Likely YQY (Sydney) and YQM (Moncton) will as well - given the onward connections available at Toronto from AC/WJ.

YQM (the Greater Moncton International Airport) had 647,000 passengers in 2013 compared to 615,000 in 2012. At least some of this is due to direct charter flights to Fort Mac.

YUL is up 4.3% from last year for Transborder passengers, 3 400 000+ . good progression over the last 3 years.

There's a solid push to cement Toronto's position as a Pacific and Atlantic hub.

For a smaller airport.
Yellowknife (YZF) is now getting direct flights to Ottawa (YOW) on Air North.
This will affect CN and FA run from Ottawa through Iqaluit (YFB) and on to YZF
One side note YZF is asking all passengers flying to the smaller communities to now show up earlier for addition security screening. You do not go through security when traveling into or out of the communities now.

Love that the total growth is 8.9% but aircraft movements is only 0.1

How's this possible? Aren't they limited to 3x PAX and 3x Cargo frequencies?

Calgary had 4 246 171 international passengers last year! (US included of course)

This year, we are already a total of 8.1% above where we were this time last year, with 2 320 000 passengers total in January and February! 11% of which have been international, and 22% of which have been to/from the US.
