For those of you who might be in Denver over the next week, Air Canada is offering a pop-up poutinerie with 10 different kinds of poutine to lure travellers up to Canada. Not sure how many cities they're doing this in, but it seems like a cool promotion. Going to check it out tomorrow.

(As a side note, as the article notes, poutine is relatively easy to find in Colorado, which is great for me! Also, believe it or not there's now a Montreal bagel place in Boulder...)

https://theknow.denverpost.com/2018/...denver/181386/

"Air Canada is trying to lure Denver travelers up north the best way it knows how — with poutine. Lots of poutine.

Our friendly neighbor to the north’s largest airline will open a pop-up poutinerie on Market Street on Thursday, April 12, where you can sample not one, not two, not three (OK I’ll stop now), but 10 different versions of poutine. (Classic poutine involves French fries, gravy and cheese curds.)

Each of the 10 poutines — which include variations like the Shanghai-inspired So Sweet, So Sour Fries made from sweet potato, coconut milk and pork belly –will sell for $5 (I’m not sure what that converts to in loonies…), with all proceeds going to the Adoption Exchange.

RELATED: That time Denver chef Carrie Baird won a trip to the Super Bowl with poutine.

The poutinerie event will run from April 12-18, and reservations are not necessary, just line on up.

Air Canada’s Pop-Up Poutinerie: 1523 Market St., Denver; April 12-18, Thurs.-Sat. 1-10 p.m., Sun.-Wed. 11 a.m.-8 p.m."

WS is dropping YUL-BOS, YYC-ORD and YYC-DFW (to nobody’s surprise) in June.

That’s too bad for YUL-BOS. Route didn’t even last a year. Apparently the morning flights were doing ok, but the evening flights were struggling.

In the end, they couldn’t compete against AC.

Norwegian postpones Canada launch til summer 2019.

http://business.financialpost.com/pm...summer-of-2019

Quote:

MONTREAL — Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA is postponing the introduction of its low-cost transatlantic service to Canada because of aircraft delivery delays.

Spokesman Anders Lindstrom says flights to Canada that were expected to start this summer are now planned to start in the summer of 2019.

He says Norwegian remains “very interested” in the Canadian market and the delay will give it more time to introduce itself to Canadian travellers.

The postponement follows a delay in the delivery of the Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft that are planned for the undisclosed routes between Europe and Canada.

The airline is expected to compete with Canadian airlines like Air Transat, WestJet Airlines and Air Canada Rouge.

Norwegian has some serious financial issues. I'd be very surprised if they ever start Canada at all.

Haha I know right?! But I forgot how to copy and paste from another thread on my phone and was hoping by now someone else did!

Repost from what I put on the YVR page earlier today:

I messaged YVR today (as I did last month), and they messaged me back and just posted the February stats after I asked :p Definitely worth the wait, amazing results, better than expected I think!

Overall up 11%. Domestic up 6.9%, Transborder up 11%, Asia Pacific up 18.6%, Europe up 4.6% (oddly, scheduled up 11.3% and charter down to 0, must be the way they used to record Transat!), and Misc. up 30.1%. Overall international up 14.8% incl. transborder, and up 18.6% international only. Highest overall traffic growth of the Canadian airports reporting February so far, in all categories nonetheless! That expansion can't come soon enough! With the healthy domestic growth, and Flair expanding a lot this summer, they should consider the old B pier upgrade. WS uses all of the new AB gates from the last expansion, and they still spillover into the old section (the new hourly YYC flights won't help this situation). YVR should be planning on that reno in tandem with international expansion, the old B pier is the last part of the airport that is still original, and is pretty awful. For the few odd jet flights that used it (and of course good old CMA) it was OK, but i feel like it will be used more and more now with Flair.

Even the 'recently' (2009) expanded C Pier is probably reaching capacity soon. AC runs 777 and 787s on some of those Toronto legs, and the holdrooms are packed!

PS, I wonder when noflyzone will chime in and downplay the traffic results and make excuses as to why the numbers are artificially high :)

Agreed, the old side looks like a bad neighbourhood where you might just get mugged. I’m hoping once the new encore gates are finished they’ll start working on the rest of the B pier renovation. I was at 26 earlier today and there’s a tent on the roof. I’m not sure if that’s because they’re getting ready to renovate the old side and want to still use 26 as it’s part of the recently done renovation.

I'm thinking it's so that Calgarians can leave the ugly sprawl of their city and head directly to a beautiful Canadian city with great historical sites, beauty, culture and amazing food. If I lived in Calgary I'd be on that flight!

Nonsense on a bad rainy day it still much nicer than LaGuardia.

(a) I would be surprised (but impressed) if Quebec City's food scene was more diverse or exciting than Calgary's; and

(b) Quebec City has more than its fair share of sprawl so I expect Calgarians would feel right at home.

With respect to historical sites, beauty, and culture, really, all Canadians ought to visit Quebec City to enjoy those.

I don't know about Calgary, but Quebec City has a great food scene. It pushes way above its weight in that department.

Calgary's edge is likely in the number of quality offerings from diverse cuisines from all over the world. Quebec City's edge is in the originality, diversity and quality of local cuisine, and probably in higher end European-style fine cuisine.

You're missing the most important element: tons of hot women!!! (unlike "built for bad weather and an apocalypse" prairie women...except my wife, of course:D).
I realize your post was a *bit* of an attempt at humour, with a strong undertone of sincerity, but this flight isn't geared for O&D YYC<---->YQB. Think of it more like ANYWHERE WEST OF YYZ<------>YQB because that's all YQB has at the moment and it's nice to see WS at least try something new. Let's see how it does.

I posted the YVR Feb stats in the Vancouver local in the transitional format with a few musings as well:

Thanks for emailing Zahav. I really wish they would just post the data and not make us ask, but this month was worth waiting for!

Here it is in the traditional format that I think Johnny crafted:

Domestic up 6.9%
International up 14.8%

---------

Total pax count up 11.0% and over 180,724 compared to February 2017.

---------

Int'l breakdown by sector:

Transborder up 11.0%
Asia Pacific up 18.6%
Europe up 4.6%
Misc Int'l up 30.1%

This growth just continues to defy expectations.

18.6% growth in Asia pacific is astounding, since it's already YVR's largest intl subset. Just to put it into perspective:

Raw asiapac growth was 51,324... That's the equivalent of 124 completely full new 747s in one month!

I doubt numbers like this will continue through the year, especially considering the FEb Chinese New Year effect, but the first two months of traffic at YVR already have the total growth near 10% which would propel the airport straight through the milestone of 25 million and into 26.5 million. :runaway:

I know it's not related to Airports, but here is a video about the food scene found in Quebec City. I didn't know the offering was so diversified.

I just noticed WS80/81 is loaded as YYC-YHZ-CDG

For those of you familiar with WS transatlantic ops to DUB/GLA, do they require those who board in YYZ to deplane in YYT/YHZ? When I asked the agents in YYC they gave me different answers. It’s clear on the westbound leg everyone would be required to clear customs in YYT/YHZ, but was curious about the eastbound leg.

YYCguys Apr 22, 2018 12:03 AM

I am sure that there will be a crew change and a cabin groom so I would imagine everyone would have to deplane along with all of their belongings to allow this to occur.
