I gotta agree with everyone else, that is one sexy building. It sorta reminds me on the One Harbor Drive towers, but better. The renderings in the PDF that was linked are a lot better.

Bosa has always delivered. It will get built.

In other news.....thoughts on the new Central Courthouse tower that was approved recently? I don't love it or hate it. It's sorta "meh". Considering it's a civic building, I understand that it needs to be functional, I just expected something with more of a "Wow" factor considering it was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.

It's will have 22 floors, so I'm guessing it will be at least 420'. The renderings below looks a bit distorted, don't you think?

We need some rational, pro-growth thinkers to attend tonights predesign meeting. We will be reviewing the Bosa tower on Pacific/Broadway as well as seeing the BRT proposal (huge opposition to this). If you have time to attend, please do because we need the support for downtown at this time. The meeting will be held at CCDC offices (wells fargo bldg on B street, 4th floor) the time is 5:15pm.

Again, given the magnitude of these two issues in downtown, your attendance would be much appreciated.

i like it.. it ain't THAT bad.... but of course something much more beautiful could've been proposed... i think DTSD needs another pointy building... The point of OAP doesn't really stand out because it doesn't pierce high into the sky like the Empire State Buildings or Transamerica Pyramid... One America Plaza is short and stubby =[

With a 500' limit, pretty much anything in San Diego will be short and stubby.

I think this size/shape/massing is extremely appropriate for a courthouse. This is a sensible approach to this program.

I like the new courthouse, I didn't even know there was another one!

Is the one almost finished on Broadway a courthouse too?

And wow that rendering of the new Bosa tower doesn't show how curvy it is, looks much better in the pdf!

Why is there so much opposition to BRT downtown? Who is opposing it? I just don't really understand why people would be against this...

I have no idea about this specific proposal but bus rapid transit (BRT) usually requires dedicated lanes, which is fewer lanes for automobiles or the removal of curbside parking lanes-- even though overall mobility may likely be improved by more reliable and efficient bus routes. People who suffer from Entitled Drivers Syndrome, who think the automobile is the only form of transporation, might oppose this.

The new Bosa tower looks great! I agree, it's very refreshing for the city; a nice change of pace.

The new renderings are for a new county courthouse, to replace the relic that's adjacent to the Hall of Justice. The courthouse being constructed across the street from the Hall of Justice is a new federal courthouse. I think that building is set to open sometime this summer.

The strongest opposition is coming from the Little Italy Residents Association (LIRA) because in order to implement BRT down Broadway they will need a layover lot where the buses can park, turn off, and the driver can take a break to use the bathroom etc. The layover lots they're proposing are in the Core/Columbia district (one between the jail and columbia tower).

The system will have it's own dedicated lane throughout the county except into downtown where they will run with traffic down broadway....

So they are opposed to a lot in the Columbia district which is dead and not Little Italy being used as a lot to park buses and have drivers take a leak? I don't see how that would affect anyone. What is the logic behind their opposition...

then again i kinda like the 500' limit... it could be better off at 700' at the max but i think that SD has that "not too tall and not too short" feel to it... like a Goldilocks height or something haha

I don't visit this thread too often, but I do like both designs for the BOSA tower and the new courthouse. It seems like San Diego tries hard to make up for lack of height with exceptional design, and it pays off. I'd rather a bunch of gorgeous towers 500' high or less, than a bunch of shlocky 700-800' towers a la Miami.

However, that being said, I'm very curious: how urgently is the city pursuing the construction of a new airport? I've heard things here and there, but it doesn't seem to be considered a major issue to SD city officials, and I know that beyond the height limits, ever-increasing tourism has the airport constantly over-capacity. Especially here on a skyscraper site, I would expect that you all are waiting impatiently for that to happen so the 500' limit can finally be lifted. The way San Diego's development seems to be snowballing, I would hope that the city would move towards a replacement airport sooner rather than later. Where do you all stand?
