Well, there's a good start. Nice to see another Houstonian photographer on the scene here.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/...02fd7a0b_b.jpg

I like this. Old and new mixing quite well.

I don't think there's a limit to images in a single post, or at least I've posted as many/more in one post than you've got here. Probably too many...

Oh yeah. In before "OMG WHERES TEH PPL"

diskojoe Feb 7, 2010 2:47 AM

^^

thanks. i like the pic of the big glass box too. ugly building but the reflection make up for it.

and the photos are grouped because i had posted them elsewhere before here so i just copied the posts instead of having to reload each image.

SouthByMidwest Feb 7, 2010 3:01 AM

The glass boxes are great for reflections, and that's why I like them. And, after all, we do have some great classic 'scrapers like the old Gulf and the Esperson.

So, keep 'em coming.

i finally got around to making an account here too.

I also like that HDR shot of the "faces" sculpture but with City Hall in the background rather than the Hobby Center.

Houston looks lovely. I read somewhere that Texas is one of the most affordable places in the world to buy houses... if only you had a snowy cold climate I would move there straight away :)

you can live well in Houston and not break the bank but it never snows really. but you can buy a house for as little as $150,000, sometimes less. I have also seen condos you can rent downtown for less than $1000 a month.

damn...you have a great knack for making the ordinary look very, very extraordinary...i felt like i was on an acid trip looking at these photos.

It snows/ice in Dallas and West TX almost every winter.

Texas is affordable, however AZ may be even cheaper: average house in Phoenix is down to 102k now. One can buy a brand new house for 80k in the suburbs here because of the real estate collapse. Look up houses in Laveen, Anthem, Goodyear, Surprise, Maricopa, Queen Creek. All new, all cheap.

I think houses in AZ are so cheap because the weather there is just sickening, i would rather cut my veins than live in a place where it's over 100F for more than 3 months a year :)

My ideal temperature is 30F or below :D

It snowed in 2004, 2008, and 2009 in Houston. That's not "never", but it's rare. And this winter has been cold and miserable. But some winters are quite mild. Depends on whether El Nino or La Nina weather patterns prevail.

But can you get a house of decent quality for $150K (except in the way distant suburbs?). I can't imagine finding a decent house for $150K in the city proper. I've looked at HAR.com a lot and it seems that houses in that price range don't look very good, or are in very marginal neighborhoods. But if that's incorrect, it would be nice to know.

You wouldn't like Houston summers. On average, it goes over 100F during the summer only a few times, but with the high humidity it feels like it all summer long.

You must have problems in Melbourne with the extreme heat that area experiences sometimes (like last year, which was amazing).
