Perhaps the first canyon in Canada:

Everytime I think about St Paul, I think about my Montreal home. St Paul was my "main drag."
|
it's mine, too.

Second Street SW has some major buildings in 8 blocks:
Waterfront 2 condos under construction, Livingston Place Provident Energy Tower, Jamieson Place, BP, Esso-Fifth Avenue Place, Canada Place, Alberta Stock Exchange, Epcor, Bow Valley Square 3 & 4, Energy Plaza, Scotia Centre, Home Oil Tower & TD Square, Bankers Hall east tower, Bankers Court, and PennWest Plaza 2 http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/...aca09385_b.jpg |
It is impossible to overdo Montreal canyon shots.

Here's Victoria's lone canyon; View St. I think it's called View St. because many of the people that live there have great views.

Urban Canyon being rebuilt in Toronto with Addition of Trump Toronto....
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2278/sany0994.jpg Not a real canyon yet, like Traynor has stated.... but we're getting there.. photo by me |
^pffft, no kidding about "not a real canyon" yet.
Your weak Toronto shot has nothing on Victoria. ;) |

Toronto lacks the uniformity (few continuous wall effect, and we see too many pics showing only one side of the street)
Ottawa and Montreal have nice canyons but lacks the height Calgary was the closer to show a canyon à la New York, but the pics was not taken at street level so it's hard to say. I don't remember seeing pics of canyons in Vancouver in this thread, I'll check again. http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9249/image7na.png http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/1593/image6ho.png |

So this canyon lacks uniformity.. ok, I guess you're right. But.. Take a look from street level... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/...5a067344_b.jpg Marcanadian at SSC And we're still building here. - Now... These 8 Towers could make a "World Class Skyline" in any Canadian City, they're taller than anything going up anywhere in Canada and it just can't be that hard to believe they are all being built on the same street in Toronto. Again, if you need pause for thought... that's just One Street in Toronto, with all this construction and is already a very impressive streetwall if not canyon. U Condo - Tower 1 - 187 Meters U Condo - tower 2 -158 Meters Burano Condo - 160 Meters 33 Bay Street Pinnacle Centre - 160 Meters Trump Tower - 282 Meters Four Seasons Hotel - 204 Meters 880 Bay Street - 190 Meters STIQ - 45 Bay Street - 250 Meters U Condos 1 and 2, Burano, and 880 Bay Street will all be built on the "WEAKSIDE" of the Bay Streetwall pictured in the above photo... And of course Aura which is not on the streetwall but will be overseeing the action from 252 Meters above ground level. Now, don't tell me that it's not impressive that all these towers can go up and not even make a dent in the Bay Streetwall, because it's already one of the longest and most visually impressive canyons in the country without the perceived notion of what is uniformity. If you have a uniform canyon, it's not a skyscraper canyon, cause not all towers that mean anything will all be built to the same height. Please continue to rag on Bay Street... however, do allow me the pleasure of defending Bay Street. If North York could fill those holes, it would probably be a perfect canyon! It reminds me of Dubai or Las Vegas with all the highrises on the same street. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/6185/...05d986b87b.jpg |
