In Ottawa and Gatineau, driving to take a flight in YUL (or Mirabel in the past) is what about 50% of international bound travelers do.

I know lots of people who drive to Montreal for the direct Paris and Amsterdam flights. Personally, I just spend the extra bucks and have a short connection in mtl or TO. Using public transit to take an Air France flight from Ottawa you: take a bus to a train station where you get another bus to an airport to catch your flight. A bit convoluted to say the least. All this to say that I'm sure we lose at least as much traffic to Trudeau as we do to Ogdensburg and Syracuse combined.

I know the numbers will be ridiculously low, but I'm just curious where I could see the numbers for YQG, and is there anywhere where you can see the numbers year over year for the last few years?

It's only once a week, but Winnipeg once again has overseas service:

Correct, it's also listed in the link on the post above yours. Service will be with a 737. A daily flight.

Six Canadian cities set to get new WestJet flights to London, U.K.

BY KRISTINE OWRAM, FINANCIAL POST SEPTEMBER 14, 2015 10:39 AM

It appears that WestJet Airlines Ltd. will offer flights out of six Canadian departure cities to London, U.K., as it proceeds with its international expansion plans.

The airline invited members of the media to “high tea” in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and St. John’s on Tuesday as part of a “major route announcement.”

In June, WestJet said it would offer flights to London’s Gatwick Airport beginning next spring. London will be the first transatlantic destination for its new, longer-range Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

Ow... :haha: Sorry! I assumed the link was Winnipeg-specific, didn't click.

Didn't see that coming, at least for YUL ! On A321's no less, with 200 seats.

Will be interesting to see if these flights will last. They have a limited fleet so far, 5 aircraft, with only 3 deliveries to come, meaning their European coverage in terms of daily departures pales in comparison to FI's.

Construction of the new international terminal is going along fine with most of the excavation completed. The airport has put online a website specifically about the construction process. You can access it here (in english):

Each way mind you, but still a good deal :)

$199 from St. John's. About 10% the cost of Air Canada's direct flight lol. Great promo.

If WestJet could throw in a direct flight from Moncton to St. John's, I would use this in a second.

The last time I flew to London, it was on Air Canada out of Halifax. It was fine, but very expensive. This could be so much better, and from St. John's would be a really short hop across the pond. :)

I'm just tickled. Hopefully the days of having to fly to Central Canada before going on to Europe are over.

A nice 4.5 hour flight to Dublin, or 5 to London, is so much easier for us than 7 hours to Toronto and back before even moving in the right direction.

And it's so good for tourism. The number of Irish people on the streets here this summer... amazing. Way more than previous years. And I imagine the London flights will accomplish the same thing.

Everyone I know from the U.K. living here is already posting to their friends home things like, "No excuse to not visit me now. Only 100 quid each way!"

I'm surprised that there isn't such a route already. I wonder about the demand for it. Moncton seems to be forgotten by Westjet whenever new routes are announced. :(

YUL needs to do something about security A.

The queue went straight down the hall and didn't snake back, it also wasn't moving!.. I almost missed my flight but just lifted the divider rope and ran into one of the Security queues that was basically empty.

Fail.

Ouch! Whenever I used to fly across the Atlantic from Toronto, I was always amazed at how we'd be 2.5 hours into the flight, the lights were already dimmed, and the movie was almost finishing, and we'd still be over Newfoundland. It makes almost no sense for you guys to make such a huge detour just to fly across the pond.

Maybe one day Ryanair will fly St. John's to Dublin and you'll have cheap access to all their European destinations.

YUL is forgotten by WestJet every time new routes are announced. We got used to it.
