CA1067/1068 down to 2 weekly.

PVG-YEG-ORD-YEG-TSN-PVG

No more DFW, which is now served via ANC. So much for the oil linkup.

Did ET upgauge YYZ to a 77LR? I've been tracking the flight lately and it hasn't been a 787 in a while.

So Quebec stole Air China frequencies from both Alberta and BC.......:runaway:

Yes true 1 frequency shifted, but actual capacity on the peak summer period is actually increasing more at YVR than YUL. Peak 2016 YVR seats was 3,130 and 2017 is 3,528. Peak 2016 YUL seats was 1,878 and and 2017 is 2,051. That's a 398 seat weekly increase for YVR (+13%) but just a 173 increase for YUL (+9%). Just to put it in perspective ;)

I don't know how you calculated this one for YUL but peak summer 2016, Air China was 3 weekly using 313 seat B777-300ER, making 1878 seats available every week. You got this one right. But peak summer 2017, Air China will be using 293 seats B787-9 6 times per week, making 3516 seats available every week, an increase of 1638 seats compare to summer 2016. An increase of almost 47%.

I didn't verified your YVR calculations but I'm pretty sure its more than what you say ;)

This totally reminds me of ambitious Saskatoon airport sending out request for local musicians and groups to do concerts at airport, but without getting paid..

One Saskatoon band said that they would do concert if airport would pay with flights to their next gigs like Iceland did for them

The YVR calculations are correct, those definitely reflect going from 10 to 9 weekly, while the plane goes from 313 to 392 seats. According to the article, YUL is going from 5 to 6 weekly during peak, not 3 to 6 weekly. That's where I got the calculations from.

Last summer, CA was 3x weekly at YUL. They recently went to 4x weekly (October). 5x weekly will only start on March 26, 2017, and 6x weekly in July 2017.

So that's from 3x weekly B77W last summer (1878 seats) to 6x weekly B789 next summer (3516 seats).

That's correct.

If we add AC's new YUL-PVG, that's 3514 more seats a week to/from China. Combined with the CA increase, that's 7030 seats next summer vs 1878 last, an increase of 374% to/from China.

This month, the Canada-Australia bilateral gets upgauged to 9,000 seats a week (per country, one way) for services to SYD, BNE, MEL and PER, basically enabling roughly 4 daily non stops per country.

Let's see if AC announces MEL in the coming year.

They are currently operating a B77L daily on YVR-SYD, and a B789 daily to BNE, for a total of 4186 seats a week one way.

Ok gotcha, that makes sense! The article made it sound like it was comparing previously operated vs. previously just announcced. That is a huge increase for sure then! And higher frquency is better than larger capacity planes IMO, YVR sadly keeps getting sardine can HD format planes rather than more frequencies

Please please please announce
A direct flight from Melbourne to Vancouver. This is the route I care about the most and would make my life easier travelling back and forth between both countries instead of transiting through Sydney or Brisbane.

How they've lacked a direct link between Australia's second largest city and Canada to date is beyond me.

If Melbourne is added, it would be interesting that Australia would have 4 direct connections to Canada. How many Canadian cities will have direct connections? Beyond Vancouver, I couldn't find this online quickly.

Geography, geography, geography. Australia's major cities are lined up N<->S on the coast while Canada's 'other' major centers (yyz/yul) would require an additional 4+ hours flying time to an already very long flight. IMO, Most passengers would just be happy to "hit land" (YVR), disembark, clear customs, stretch legs, then go onwards. I don't have the exact numbers but IIRC, most visiting Aussies spend the majority of their time visiting Vancouver and the mountainous region, and then fit in a little extra travel eastward only toward the end of their trips. YVR makes the most sense for that reason alone. Who knows, perhaps a Sydney > Toronto flight could happen someday. (westbound, I'm not so sure) I just know I'd never want to be onboard such a long flight.

Aeromexico is going full double daily on YVR, YUL and YYZ routes, for the summer at least. The last announcement I found said YUL was going to 11 weekly, and YVR and YYZ up to 10. But all will now be double daily in summer, and I'm sure they will extend it if succesful.

Last announcement here for reference. No formal announcement on the new increases, but it's on the booking engines already.

Perth Australia to Vancouver is going to be a one stop flight forever. No chance of these cities connecting directly. I fly it a couple times a year and continue to head north through Hong Kong then onward to Vancouver. Flying through Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne does not appeal to me.

Well ya. It's 160 nm longer than PER-LHR, which has more O&D (yet still too little for a non stop) and which is going to be a bold enough route for QF. They won't make any money on it for a few years, if ever. In fact, they currently fly to LHR twice daily via DXB, and none of the flights are profitable. They still haven't announced if they will reduce the 2 daily LHR flights from SYD and MEL, or stick with 3 dailies to LHR, which will be way too many.

As for AC, they have no interest in PER. It's the other three they are after.

I hope for QF's sake other Australians don't share your opinion about connecting domestically, or else that new PER-LHR flight of theirs won't succeed.

But back on topic, realistically, the best we will see from AC in Australia is daily each to SYD, MEL and BNE. I highly doubt SYD will go double daily anytime soon, not with BNE and MEL coming online.

Along with lauching YYC, that's quite an increase to Canada compared to last summer. Amazing what lifting visa requirements can do !

Not sure if the numbers ultimately make it worthwhile, but if the flyertalk rumors are true and AC is mulling YVR-MNL, they could do perth as a fifth freedom from MNL.

Many in Australia have left the Qantas bandwagon. Kind of like AC years ago, when you are the only option and offer crap service people start to look for alternatives. In Perth, it got so bad that for a long time Qantas didn't fly anywhere internationally. Pretty bad when the "major" carrier offers no direct flights overseas from the major west coast city. Think AC would have any following in Vancouver if they did the same and cut international flights?

Most Canadians forget that Australia have a west coast. They fly in to Sydney or Brisbane, travel up and down the east coast and claim to have "done" Australia.

China Airlines converting YVR to daily service as of June 17, and effective Aug. 1st, switching to A350-900 daily. It will be the airline's last 747 service. Same with EVA Air, YVR is their last 747 destination before switching to 777. Sad to see these planes retired, but daily A350 service is an amazing thing and softens the blow! TPE will now be served 19 times a week, pretty nice frequency bump! Mix of 787 (AC), 777 (BR), and 350 (CI) aircaft.

It looks like YVR will push past 22million passengers this year, up from the 20.3 million in 2015.
