Redeployment of aircraft where they can be better utilized and/or make more money. Additionally, regional airlines are being squeezed by a pilot shortage and are having to cut routes.

At least YWG is isolated. YYJ and YQB arent, with YVR and YUL a stone's throw away.

Then again, isolation didn't save YYT...

My understanding is UA is removing a good number of the CRJ aircraft from the fleet. Some of these stations are likely stations that could not support a larger aircraft.

Yeah, I don't know if Winnipeg will hold on to service by UA given that.

I mean, we have one of the largest Star Alliance hubs in the world about 2.5 hours to the right, so that's part of the problem.

If that's what it came to, I think Winnipeg could swing daily 319 UA service to ORD with DEN being sacrificed to make it work. Numbers from here are growing. I'd rather have that 1 a day option to ORD vs. nothing at all.

I've used ORD for connections to the US, Europe and Asia and I think it's a great alternative to have access to... losing that one additional consumer option would hurt.

Brutal. The loss of YXE-DEN really hurt me. What a shame for connectivity of Canadian cities...too bad that no Canadian airlines are stepping up to the plate and replacing these services. AC seems to be more focused on its international business - maybe WJ?

So YXU will join the ever growing list of stations closed by UA in Canada in the last 2 years.....

Yeah, UA's presence goes a long way toward making up for AC's shortcomings in the transborder department for those of us who don't live in a AC hub city. Also a decent price option for international.

Sorry, haven't been keeping up... is United pulling YYJ-SFO? Looks like the non-stop can still be booked into January 2017.

Not that i know of. I was simply stating that markets like YYJ and YQB are more likely to see a UA cancellation rather than YWG, due to their proximity to star alliance hubs (YVR and YUL).

I hope note. For the tech community in Victoria there is a lot of traffic between SF and Victoria.

Delta is coming to YYJ with a Seattle flight in addition to Alaska.

Going to the US I always find YVR and YYC make better connecting airports that the US airports.

YYC eh, man there'll be a posse of YEGers who would absolutely disagree with you.

From what I read online, some Londoners travelling to Chicago were driving to Port Huron and taking a train the rest of the way. Not only cheaper but the added bonus of going directly into Chicago's downtown.

YXU will always have trouble competing with some of the other airports and other options for medium range travel.

I think that Numbers to ORD are shrinking (and numbers on United in general). Air Canada, Westjet, and Delta are a different story.

Maybe we can keep one of the destinations though - I'd be happy with that for sure.

YEG mentality of "I am ok transferring anywhere as long as it is not YYC" is odd.

YYC is not a great airport to transfer at. Primary reason is the security people. They insist on not letting you in until an hour or two before your connecting flight. The problem applies on both security going into domestic and security going into the US.

Still much better that connecting in Seattle from a non-preclearance airport. Flying Alaska through Seattle from YYJ you arrive, US customers can be quick or take an hour or more. Then US security then one people mover, then another people mover then you get close to your gate.

I completely disagree. I connect through Seattle all the time and I have flown to the US via YVR too. With Nexus Seattle is a breeze... We have connections within 1.5 hrs with no probs. Not to mention SEA has waaaaayyyy more connecting flights (and more frequencies) to waaaayyy more US cities compared to YVR or (which you still have to go through US customs/img preclear). To put it in perspective, SEA is busier than YYZ and is mostly US domestic. I have found YYC is only really good for connecting to other Canadian prairie cities .. As is YEG to a lesser degree.

I have arrived into Seattle at the same time as multiple Delta International arrivals and the Dubai flight. You get trapped on that overhead walkway area waiting for your flights turn to go down the escalators to join the customs lineup. Until you get down there the lines don't split into Nexus or CDN/US or overseas passport holders. I find it unpredictable. It is either fast or it takes a long-time.

I would agree there are more choices for connecting flights in Seattle if you heading to smaller centers in the US. For me my US destinations are almost always Las Vegas, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and the odd time Miami.

Hardly. Last year KSEA had approx 381,000 aircraft movements, CYYZ had nearly 444,000. That's quite a few more at Pearson, you can't call Seattle busier.
Although 2015 passenger figures aren't yet readily available, Pearson regularly has more passenger movements a year than Seattle too.

Don't know about aircraft movements, but for 2015 passengers:

SEA = 42,340,537

YYZ = 41,036,847

Now considering that YYZ is has much higher International numbers than SEA, and that SEA is mostly domestic US traffic - in the context of someone connecting from YYJ via SEA or YVR, to further US destinations...SEA has way more US airports (and frequencies) covered! This was my only point, I just used the size of SEA in comparison to YYZ for a Canadian perspective. YVR has improved with the additions of a few new US destinations, but it cannot hope to match SEA with their Delta&Alaska hubs plus United/American/Southwest/JetBlue etc. and an airport with 40million PAX + a year.
