There are still 4 major sony buildings in RB. The Pointe, which is the one you can see from I-15, Building Seven (which is currently the best-looking sony building), and Building 3 & 5 which house a lot of manufacturing and service business. |

I think I am heading down that way today. |
alright...thanks for the info:) any plans of Sony buying office space downtown that you know about?
|

I'm just guessing here. Correct me if I am wrong. |

I know, it would. They could lease an entire building, I am sure. The entertainment side of Sony has an entire building in New York. There's no reason why Sony Electronics couldn't do the same thing in San Diego. Hypothetically of course.
|
well considering they are headquartered here right?
|
I didn't know Sony Electronics was HQ'ed in San Diego. :o

We should have photo Sunday, or something; whereas we each go out and take photos of stuff in San Diego that we like, like developments, and post them here.

Favorite San Diego Building
Let us all share our favorite San Diego building. Mine has to be the El Cortez, it is one of the finest examples of the Spanish Colonial Revival Period.
|
Was on the webcam today and you can now see the Diegan hotel. I also saw a new crane I have not seen before in the East village. Its on the same street leading from the ballpark as Icon. I have no idea what project it is. Does anyone know?
|
I havent physically been down that way, nor have I seen the webcam, but I would guess that it is either The Main Library or 14th and K because Library Tower isnt slated to begin construction until late 2007.
|
okay...just looked at the webcam...dont see a crane. am i missin it?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...7350461419.jpg |
i think i see one, but its definitly too blurry...
|
oh i see a white crane...but its not on the same street as Icon...its to the immediate right of the DiamondView tower...i dont know if thats been there or not though

I said this before, but I like the Manchester Grand Tower... the addition. The roof. Here it is:
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...ics/Hyatt2.jpg I like the Treo too: http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/DSCF1303.jpg And the Grand Towers on Pac Highway: http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/DSCF1827.jpg |
Location of the Crane
In the photo you took you can see a 4 story grayish building in the bottom left corner. Across the street from that there is a new crane, and a basement that has been dug relatively deep. Thats what I'm wondering about. The crane is an orangeish color if that helps.
|
I'm still not seeing it, but I can only guess that you mean mid-way up in the picture, gray building, to the left of ICON. That would probably be the Library. I might be down that way tonight. If so, i'll go check it out and get a few pictures.

another guess for the "mystery" crane...
Lofts at 707 10th? |
Mystery of the Orange Crane
Actually someone else on another board indicated they thought it was this project, and after checking it out I think I agree. As the construction timeline matches the progress, and the deep hole would explain the parking. Oliver McMillan also has another rental project near completion the lofts at 655 and G, you can clearly see that one on the cam.
Lofts at 707 and 10th Ave Located in downtown San Diego's East Village neighborhood. Oliver McMIllan has started construction on a seven-story mixed-use project on the north side of G Street between Tenth and Eleventh avenues. The project will contain 209 loft apartments, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and 213 parking spaces. Construction began in September 2006 with completion targeted for spring 2008. Visit the Web site for this property: |
just beat ya! but thanks for the rest of the background info:)
:jester: |
Now for the mystery of a white crane
I know, you win:cool:
Ya know that white crane someone spotted in the webshot next to Diamond View Tower, I think I see it too. Could that be Triangle. According to the CCDC website it was suppost to have started construction. And that would be the only thing that needs a crane down there. Unless Diamond View still has a crane up. |
I feel like we are coming up with Hardy Boys Mystery Novel Titles.

Oh, and one more thing. I posted this in it's own thread, but since you all are San Diego forum people, you get delivery service. Enjoy.

Beautiful Pano! The only cranes down here are for the Legend and the Hilton hotel. Could it have been one of the Dole Fruit docking cranes?
