I don't believe this will get off the ground. who is the developer?

We're gonna need a lot of bananas if this gets built. The base compliments the streetwall handsomely.

Why so much doubt? Had the recession made us all eternal pessimist?
|
holy crap that got taken down from Jahn's site quickly

OMG. this. THIS. This spot, this architect, this design. Seriously everything. I so hope this beauty get's built. I've been wondering how long it would take for developers to capitalize on the amazing opportunities S Michigan has. What a stunner! By far, my favorite building proposed. :slob: Can you imagine if this goes UC, watching it get built, those cantilevers? Wow. Just wow.

save that image to your hard drive while you can folks.

"Iconic buildings today are buildings that look weird." -Viñoly
I think this thing looks weird. I don't hate it, but I don't think I understand it. I think it's that the bottom section, which matches the height of its neighbor to the north, doesn't seem related to the rest of the building. It looks like that was a building that had always been there and then they built a 70 story addition on top of it. |
|
idk...i like that it matches the neighbor, i'd like a LOT more if it was partially deferential...drop that heavy cornice two floors (but not the overall height!). no reason to be so perfectly matchy....a little step there goes a long way.

It's got the same vibe as the new WTC2 going on. Really sleek from one angle, kinda clunky from another. Better than WTC2 though.
I don't understand the cantilever as a design element either. A setback creates usable space for balconies and terraces. The overhang is negative space. I get that it creates more space above it, but just looks bad to me. But this is going to take all the NIMBY heat off the Roosevelt towers. Poof goes the argument that they're too tall and don't tie into the skyline. |
Now I want to see developers come up with significant proposals for the old YWCA site and the surface parking lot behind the Congress Plaza.
|
Holy SHIT this thing is dope. Hot damn. And Jahn's facades are ACE. This would be one of the most stunning buildings in the city, mark my words. Goodness.

That rendering is pretty badass...hope this thing gets built.

Wow, leave it to Chicago to do a better version of 200 WTC.
