I'm excited to see that cantilever form come off, hopefully it won't look too much like a dropped ceiling.

Look for a moment if you will at how One Worldwide Plaza appears in this photo in particular. The ceiling and scale of the skyline has literally been raised about 500 feet with this movement of towers.

Yes it has. Shows the difficulty now for a new tower to really stand out above the others.

It's interesting in that it is an exercise in getting the maximum square footage out of a confined lot. Maybe in the future as cities become even more built up we will see towers cantilevering over each other and weaving together.

Other than that it does seem very designed-by-committee. At least the facade looks very high quality.

IIRC, NYGuy said earlier in reply to my question that This giant has a certain Sears/Willis vibe to it. Whereas that tower is a fused collection of simple black shafts, This one actually in a way melds what looks to me like three separate façade designs into one.

And each one will have their own additive elements.

That little chamfer/angle motif that runs up the entire height of whatever side it's on makes a big difference, for instance.

^ What's the building under construction to the right of Central Park that looks like a shorter/chubbier Steinway?

Crawford Oct 16, 2019 6:26 PM

It's 200 Amsterdam Ave., a new condo tower near Lincoln Center:

From what height do you estimate you took this picture?

That Jersey view is stunning with Hudson Yards, CPT, 111, and 1 Vanderbilt all in the same pic.

preview the new nordstrom -- opens oct 24th:

See inside Nordstrom’s ‘one-stop shop’ of a flagship store

BY SHAYE WEAVER | Nordstrom wants to make it clear that its seven-story flagship store in Midtown is more than its merchandise.

When it opens at 10 a.m. on Thursday at 57th Street and Broadway, across from Nordstrom Men’s Shop, it will stock more than 10,000 handbags, 100,000 pairs of shoes, and 6,000 pairs of jeans, but it will also give shoppers more reasons to stick around.

It will be a one-stop shop for beauty services, including airbrush tanning, facials, blowouts, manicures and AR-enhanced makeup help and it will also boast seven food and drink options to keep shoppers and their families satisfied. (There will even be an option to get your champagne or wine delivered to where you are in the store.)

It sounds like a lot and it is. The 320,000-square-foot store, which was designed by James Carpenter Design Associates, doesn’t include men’s clothing, but it still chock full with merchandise at every price point, hoping to attract both the soccer mom and the high profile business woman — both tourists and locals.
