Also includes YUL-BNA as well as the already mentioned above YYC-BOS and 2nd daily YVR-EWR. I like how it avoids mention of the Max 8 by not mentioning what aircraft type is operating the 2nd daily EWR flights. :haha:

Probably a wise decision :D

Also of note, YYC-BOS is a short season. June 22 to Sept 7. Thats two and a half months. If my memory serves me correctly, YVR-BOS started with a similarly short season.

I wonder if either of those routes will get extended to year-round when AC got enough A220...

What's the YVR-BOS season now? I'm assuming YYC-BOS would follow suit and expand into the summer season, before going year round.

AC is supposed to get 17 A220s next year. Wonder why they didn't' launch YYC-BOS straight with the A220. Seems to me it's better suited for the route.

That being said, the A220 has 17 more seats to fill than the A319, so that might have been a factor.

I'm curious if WS will counter by adding its own YYC-BOS service. Quite amusing AC beat them to the punch on this one. :haha:

Does WS serve BOS on its own aircraft from any Canadian city, seasonably or year round?

I would not at all be surprised if WS follows. BOS was the largest unserved market for YYC in the US and with DL building up quite a presence there I could see WS jump in.

Encore flies YYZ-BOS year round. They also flew YHZ-BOS from 2016 to 2019. They canceled it earlier this year. They also tried YUL-BOS 2 years ago. Didn't work.

Next summer it's scheduled to be May 30 - Sept 13.
This year is was a lot shorter due to the MAX.
Last year, before the MAX saga began, was approx May 15 - Sept 30.

Currently AC schedule only require 5 A220 for the summer season, with very low utilization rate (~9.5 hr/day on average), so there should be more routes coming. But still, all flight so far are based at either YUL (starting from Jan) and YYZ (starting from May), so they would need to recieve enough plane to establish a third base before starting YVR-BOS or YYC-BOS.

Thanks for the information! Maybe WS will end up doing the YYC-BOS route, as I can’t see it letting AC muscle in on its home turf!

Relax its a 2 and a half month seasonal service.

If WJ was going to launch service to BOS it will most likely be year round.

I see the A220 showing up on YYC-YUL next summer. However, beyond 30APR20 most of the schedule is a placeholder at this point. For example, AC now routinely load YOW-YYZ as all E90 this far out and currently are, even though on 30 April they’re showing all 319s & 320s. Something new is YUL-YOW is all CRJ placeholders.

What’s the plan for the remaining 7 DH1s? Will they still be flying exclusively out of YTZ in summer 2020? When is their retirement?

They have 6 DH1s, which will all be gone by December 2020. They will also drop 4 DH3s and 4 DH4s by the end of 2020 as well.

The AC Express fleet will drop from 146 this year to 132 by the end of next year.

I am doubtful the 2nd YVR-EWR flight will even happen, hence why it is scheduled with the MAX. I don't think they would even need a 2nd flight, seems like an placeholder or something since they aren't sure if the MAX will be back. The YYC-BOS is more likely to materialize, and is fully a shot fired to WS since they haven't tried that route yet. The BNA route makes the most sense, and is on the right equipment for it.

I wonder what this will mean for YCG. We've been a DD 1 and 3 airport for decades. Hopefully a new bird.

Well, CX will cancel their YVR-JFK flight by the end of March, and there is no additional capacity for the summer months so far for any of the New York route. Even if the CX flight have a load factor of ~45%, those 150 or so people would need to go somewhere...?

The winter months will be handle by DL for converting their YVR-JFK route to year-round.

zahav Dec 11, 2019 9:10 PM

It is the MAX aircraft assignment that worries me, if they had it as a 319 (like it used to be in the old days) or anything else, I'd be more sure. But assigning it the MAX means they are very loosely committed to it.

Yes I just saw on airliners.net that DL has extended JFK to year-round (starting 10 weeks earlier this spring than last year, and so far loaded all year). Definitely this is good news, and a smart move by DL to strengthen this route. We all knew 5th freedom CX route would be cut eventually, there was no reason for it now that the necessary aircraft are commonplace to do long distances. I wonder how much of the flights were YVR-JFK O&D and how much was JFK-HKG staying on the plane.

What a random announcement, just like when Frontier announced YYC.

However Frontier is still serving YYC so must be doing well.

Not that random. YVR has lots of cruise ship traffic during the summer. That dies off quite a bit when the ships head down south.

Sun Country is the Air Transat/Sunwing of the US.
