Charlotte tour from 22 floors up
Photos of Charlotte taken from the 22nd and top floor of the Hilton Center City.
http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304423&exif=N.jpg The large building in the center is the Charlotte Plaza, which has Bentley's on 27 on the top floor. To the left is the BB&T building in all it's '70's glory. The top few floors of the large parking deck on the left is occupied by the Courtyard hotel. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304424.jpg On the far left we can see the very top of the Midtown Plaza, built in 1924. To the right is the top of 200 South Tryon, built in 1961, and in the very back we have the Carillon built in 1991. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304422.jpg A wider view looking north. The construction in the very center of the photo is 210 Trade, a 50 floor condo tower. You can see the light rail Blue line on the bottom right. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304425.jpg A better view of the Hearst tower, currently the 2nd tallest building in Charlotte until the completion of the new Wachovia tower in 2009. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304426.jpg The Aloft Hotel under construction, part of the Epicenter/210 Trade development. Behind it to the right you can see the Ritz-Carlton hotel under construction. You can't see it, but behind the Ritz-Carlton is the construction site for the new Bank of America building, which will be about twice as tall as the Ritz. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304427.jpg The recently renamed Time Warner Cable Arena, which has been very busy this year hosting the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, ECHL Charlotte Checkers, CIAA Basketball tournament, ACC basketball tournament, and regional NCAA tournament games. The ugly teal building is the Charlotte Transportation Center. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304428.jpg On the right is the Park condos under construction. The dome in the distance just to the left of the Park is the old Cricket Arena. Closer, below that you can see the old Memorial Stadium. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304429.jpg Looking down at the 3rd street light rail station. Now we're going to look out the other side of the building, south. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304430.jpg Looking towards the Southpark "skyline" about 7 or so miles south of downtown. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304431.jpg The Westin hotel. Behind it, the I-277 beltway. In front of it is the Convention center. In the bottom left you can see the light rail line. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304436.jpg Looking over I-277 towards Southend we see some residential buildings including the pink Arlington, and the Dowd YMCA. Currently the interchanges here on I-277 are being redone to free up some more land for redevelopment. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304434.jpg The NASCAR Hall of Fame and office tower under construction. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304437.jpg Foreground is the Bellsouth building. The white buildings in the distance are part of the Carolina's Medical Center and the Levine Children's Hospital. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304435.jpg On the right is One Wachovia Center. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304438.jpg Looking up at One Wachovia, the current 3rd tallest building in Charlotte, built in 1988. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304439.jpg Looking south at night. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304432.jpg Big pimpin' in the Executive Lounge atop the Hilton. Ah bachelor parties. If you are looking for an upscale gentleman's club in walking distance from center city, I recommend the Uptown Cabaret. Okay, here are some more recent photos of Charlotte I've taken. Enjoy: http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93975778.jpg http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93975766.jpg Firehouse Museum, in a pre-WWII fire station. There is currently a debate about making this a historic building. Because of Charlotte's unwritten rule about tearing down everything historic, you know. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/67446284.jpg Odell building, and the Hall House, built in 1940. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/64725691.jpg Dunhill Hotel, built in 1927. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/67446273.jpg http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93979957.jpg 7th Street light rail station. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93975798.jpg Lots of construction going on in the center city. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93975785.jpg On the left is the new Wachovia tower, which will be the new 2nd tallest in Charlotte. In front is the new African American Cultural Center. http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/93975777.jpg On the right is the Catalyst condos under construction. Hope you enjoyed this little tour of uptown Charlotte. Thanks! |

I love this window and view: http://www.pbase.com/bz3rk/image/96304432.jpg Looks like something from a star wars starcruiser. More bldgs should have these, IMO. Nice pics. The top of that Hilton seems to be a good vantage point. |
