It would seem that 111's gonna block the new Tappan "Not Mario Cuomo" Zee Bridge.
(I just prefer calling it by its proper designation. I'm as apolitical as they come.) |

Also, bridges are uniformly renamed by the government at its will. Consider the Robert Kennedy Triborough Bridge or the Ed Koch Queensborough Bridge. Lastly, the former bridge, which was once known as the Tappan Zee, is being razed. The Cuomo Bridge is a completely different structure. |

Gotham is in a league of its own!

The exciting part is that we also have 80 South, which will be slightly taller and in terms of aspect-ratio, will have a similar effect downtown. So Midtown, and I hope eventually, downtown, will have two trophy towers that excel in aspect ratio. |

Not even close to topping out. Absolutely insane Barely past the halfway point |
Currently at floor 60 and 778 feet. Believe it or not, 4 floors above this point is where the second setback shows up.

looks nice...

This is the intro: The city looked provincial back then. So much has risen. Jersey City back than was still a small farm town, full of banished New Yorkers. Also, check out the skyline here. A nice peak also at C.Park South. Fortunately, this hasn't happened yet... so we are okay, but if it does, may the beam strike a Kaufman tower. DoBro was still in its infancy. Pardon my french, but this scene is f**** great. |

This has probably been asked before... but how are those terracotta tiles fixed to the side of the building? Anyone on here know?
They look loose and brittle... like slate roof tiles.. its a beautiful look |

The narrow bands of terracotta are clever, it makes the building look larger than it is from the east/west perspective.

TWO setbacks already? I thought I'd recently read they'd just cleared the first. Awesome photos!!

Even picturing them complete, this is the angle that makes it look like they were always supposed to be there. |
The panhandling on 57th Street is going to be some of the best in the world. Those people will probably pull in 6 figures! ;)
|
^ I've rarely seen that on 57th St, but the people have their own fight with the City...

I'm wondering if the Le Parker Meridien Hotel on West 56th Street is the next to go. It's pretty prominent in both of the last two pics.
That's a big site with lots of development rights that would be ideal for a supertall with direct Central Park views. |

The East and West facades remind me a bit of the old WTC with the narrow silver lines.
I dig this building, but man is it thin. Even the CN Tower makes this thing look like a toothpick. |

How developers hunt for architects Builders of everything from high-end condo towers to affordable rentals want designers with vision and practicality By Erin Hudson May 01, 2018 Quote:

^What a class act this guy is. How refreshing it is to have a developer who actually cares about architecture and the history and fabric of the city.
Hiring that architectural historian is obviously unnecessary and the salary I'm sure is very high, but Stern does it anyways because he cares, and he builds absolutely drop dead gorgeous contributions to the skyline as a result. |
That "How developers hunt for architects" is an excellent read, particularly the questions and answers section.
This is what separates JDS from the underlings. A developer that is on the next level with its project delivery, design specification, and purpose with respect to the city that its seeking to enhance. |
That's why I wish JDS would have gotten the Clock Tower in Queens. I'm sure there would have been a better way to integrate that with the tower planned around it.

Has anyone seen info or an update on the status of the Mass Tuned Damper? At 800 tons it's suppose to be the largest one ever designed. I assume someone somewhere is working on it.

for now here is something about it and about mtd (or tmd) in general across manhattan: http://jdsdevelopment.com/ru/keeping...in-the-wind-6/ |

http://static01.nyt.com/images/2015/...-master495.png It would have been amazing if they somehow integrated the damper into the crown so that it would be visible through the glass. I've always loved the publicly accessible glorified damper in Taipei 101: http://blog.wolfram.com/data/uploads...ass-damper.gif |

My best guess is: it's either a TON of structural cross-bracing necessary to hold the tower up; OR, it's a podium that was added in to make the tower higher but can legally not be used for floor space because they already maxed out the square footage. Otherwise, a bunch more apartments or storage space could fit there? Just seems weird to me and I am curious to know what's inside this ninety foot cube of space in such a prominent location. Not sure how to post PDFs here but found this really complete plan set at: http://www.insensation.com/wp-conten...loor-Plans.pdf |
