WS officially announced its S22 schedule this morning. An interesting comment within:

Only YYZ-ORD was formally announced. It says "re-introduce" service to FCO even though it never got off the ground.

Seems like Flair had updated their schedule again. They will have 20 planes for this summer based on the current schedule.

The number of planes for each base based on early morning departures:

YYZ - 5
YVR - 4
YKF - 3
YEG - 3
YXX - 2
YOW - 2
YYC - 1

No plane will be based in YUL, YWG, and YHZ.

There is no new route. In fact, there is an overall reduction of routes. The new planes are mostly used for increasing frequency on trunk routes, as well as adding some slacks in their schedule.

Yep & Calgary YYC, Toronto YYZ , Vancouver YVR & to a smaller extent Halifax YHZ will benefit the most from WestJet’s mainline flying this Summer 2022.

Interesting,Flair can make as much changes to it they want & base planes however they choose at airports they serve, but their (OTP) is still quite bad like Swoop Airlines in Canada.

My family & I won’t use Flair or Swoop when travelling, as we need to be On Time for our connecting flights ✈️from Domestic to Internationally or the US destinations.

We will continue to fly with WestJet or Air Canada as their OTP is better✅!!

The AB announcement in particular certainly reinforced what everyone knows, and that is YYC is king for them, period. It is undoubtedly their top focus, and makes total sense to do it.

No formal announcement at all for the biggest route addition, YVR-YKA lol.. I'm surprised they didn't at least post something since it is a new route, even though it's WS Link. Usually they have some kind of blurb with comment from the local airport authority. Also surprised they did a release on YWG which is pretty minor for them all things considered.

I was surprised as well that there was no YVR-YKA announcement, at all. Has that really happened before with WS (recently)? And it is interesting to see that YYC is the quickest to recover to pre-pandemic levels (July) whereas even YYZ will take a little bit longer.

Thanks for posting that! In my view, it would make better sense to have international arrivals in the separate building, yes? International arrivals occur less frequently than domestic arrivals.

Weird having either one in a separate building unless it is some phased project and there is eventually going to be building filling in the gap between two.

I believe there are longer term plans for further terminal expansion once passenger numbers exceed 1 million per year, but it's yet to be determined if that will be a new build or expansion of existing facilities.

It would make sense to connect the two buildings. Was it cheaper in the end to have two separate HVAC/security/etc systems rather than tie it all in together?

Would not be surprised if they left the HVAC for the old build alone and just added two new one for each of the expansions. Not uncommon in these types of building to simple add new air handling units for each expansion.

The ventilation is easy to compartmentalize. Most major airports have HVAC units in each wing. Its the heating and cooling plumbing that can be done from a central plant easier. For this one though I would expect that they are using packaged units as it is small enough.

Thank god this is nearing completion, that departures lounge should've been expanded years ago! It'll be great having more than one lousy cafe option before a flight.

So with the 77L, YUL/YYZ to India will be non stop both ways.

They only ever had a single daily flight to YYC and the odd cancun flight in the winter.

Flair gave them a reason to finally expand.

Indeed, if Flair tanks YKF is going to have a lot of extra capacity available ...

While I get that they need the 77L with the legs to avoid a tech stop, using the gas guzzler and high fuel prices just has to kill the margins on the route. It was the 787 that actually made the route work in the first place.

Unless AC is going to raise the price and hope the premium of the non-stop flight can cover their costs, I wonder about its viability in the near-term.
