Looks like if you go on that downtown development activity map site it says that the 8th and B development will be 503 feet tall, which would officially make for the tallest building in San Diego. Nothing crazy, but also cool. I didn't think the city was able to go above 500'.

Wonder if that’s just the height above sea level?

How many will see light of day? 1460 India has been cleared the lot years ago and now it's still a parking lot.

Here's an update on 8th and B

Heard through the grapevine (some Greystar employees at a Bosa building) that the 8th and B project might be getting a bit of a rework design wise alongside it's conversion from apartments to condos in order to make use of the new lowered parking requirements.

Might see more units in the finished project

"The motion, however, is just a recommendation — the city council can still decide it wants to move forward with SB 10 regardless."

Wow, Tijuana is looking good. Hopefully they keep the momentum going. If they sort out their mass tranist/BRT issues the building boom could get even bigger.

Good grief. I don’t subscribe so can’t read that, is this for sure? And from the headline it looks like it will be only affordable housing? That is the last prime site right by the ballpark, can’t believe it would be squandered on something like that. Both the ritz project and the project that was proposed there before that were slated to be the largest buildings square-foot wise in San Diego county.

How would a project like this on that prime site even be profitable??

405 units spread across three 8 story buildings.

Does anyone know what's happening on 5th in the Gaslamp, between E & F?
Every storefront is shuttered on both sides of the street. Seems like the apartments above are empty as well.
Seems strange this block would be so completely dead when the next block (both north and south) are usually packed.
Is there some major renovation planned?

it seems like that end of the gaslamp quarter has been in a slump for awhile. Probably ever since the convention center and petco park became the area's anchors instead of horton plaza. Maybe the increased construction in the core and Columbia districts will help those 2 blocks out. It seems 5th between F and G has been on the rise with Mr. Tempo, Karina's, AC Hotel and now Tacos El gordo

Finally seeing some movement on the other waterfront Navy property.

In ‘historic’ deal, Navy agrees to vacate prime real estate opposite San Diego Bay

The Port of San Diego and the United States Navy have agreed to terms that will see the federal government vacate a 3.4-acre, waterfront site at 1220 Pacific Highway in exchange for $5.75 million in products and services.

The deal, which is 38 years in the making, will return the prime real estate opposite B Street Pier to the port and open the door for redevelopment with hotels and public amenities.

futuresooner Sep 12, 2023 1:47 PM

Oh, now that's some prime as hell property to redevelop.

jornelas Sep 13, 2023 1:13 AM

What is the maximum height allowed there? I know the hotel being built on the other side of broadway is ~ 400ft. But I recall a limit on the north side approaching little italy on the west side of PCH
