I love the facade of this building and the way it tapers at the top, however it would have been 100X better if it mirrored itself. It feels like a building that’s been spilt in half. Total lost opportunity.

It will be sci-fi futuristic if more supertall skyscrapers were built, especially Tower Fifth, 175 Park, 270 Park and 350 Park. ESB got some rivals comin’ up.

How come both this and the CPT have been taking so long to wrap up the construction? They topped out in Oct 2019 and Sep 2019 respectively. Is it possible that they are struggling with the engineering issues that the NY Times reported earlier this year? See The Downside to Life in a Supertall Tower: Leaks, Creaks, Breaks

Sometimes buildings that look "incomplete" is what makes them unique. To hit closer to home: Some (not me) feel this way regarding the notion that H. Cobb should have included a couple smaller setback crowns and a spire into his proposal of FIBWC (US Bank Tower), rather than just the single crown and helipad presently seen. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your opinion), like this tower, the surrounding legal circumstances at the onset of the design's conception didn't support such an outcome. But I digress. This tower being the form it is I think lends itself well into the NYC skyline, particularly when it comes to the newer "skinny" Manhattan supertalls that have been going up in recent years. In fact, for me this is probably my favorite one of the bunch, not just because of it's shape, but because of it's glorious facade. |

I still remember it taking 2+ years from topping out to opening of 1 WTC. Lots of interiors! |
^ Yes, and we see that happening all the time.

Those 5G antennas in the foreground remind me of a question. How do they get mobile phone signals up in these super tall buildings? I’ve been on top of ESB and 30 Rock and the signal was terrible.

|
Yes! No. Crane. At. All. And they’re filling in the north side.
|
I was just gonna ask... are there going to be any balconies at all on the north side or will all those gaps be filled in with glass? I seem to remember they will be...

^ Wicked photos as always!! This tower has come such a long way from renders I saw here years ago!! I'll be back in NY on Friday, so it'll be great seeing this nearly finished!
Looking at those close-up shots, seems there'll be quite a bit of cleaning to do!! Bit OT, but what sort of camera/lens did you use for all these? I wanna check out The Edge and Top of the Rock this time around and capture photos like these around sunset :worship: |

111 W 57th looks fabulous but not selling as well as they hoped.
From: https://www.bisnow.com/new-york/news...57th-st-109294
"The coronavirus pandemic iced the city’s luxury residential market for months on end. But the developers of one of Billionaire's Row's latest offerings say the market is beginning to thaw, though it is still a race to get the years-overdue building totally complete...Even before the crisis, the building had fended off foreclosure proceedings, had been hit with lawsuits and rose out of the ground as luxury inventory ballooned....The final stretch of the 1,428-foot-tall building has been hampered by the fact that hundreds of workers heading up and down the slender building must rely on just two elevators... The building reached 15% sold, making it an effective condominium, in February 2020, according to a spokesperson for the project. It has seen significant buyer activity in recent months, Maloney said, though he declined to share how many deals have been signed...The plan is now to finish the building on each floor as it sells... Certainly, Maloney’s expectations of a “modest profit” are a far cry from the luxury market’s peak of 2015, when buyers would buy uber-luxury off the plan. Right now, it would take seven years to sell all the new development condos in Manhattan, per data from appraisal firm Miller Samuel, which analyzes active and shadow inventory in the market. That number is down from a 2020 peak of 8.7 years...She said there has been “some give” in prices in the past eight weeks, and on average prices had to be lowered by 8% before buyers would begin negotiating. While the prices are down from the luxury market’s peak, she said, the sales velocity is back at the same levels of that era. Confidence from the vaccine rollout is the driving factor, and she noted demand is coming from largely domestic buyers...The building has 60 units and reaches 82 stories, according to StreetEasy..." |

Source: L'Observatoire International (The company that designed the crown lighting) Any word on when the crown lighting element will be installed? It looks like its going to be an assortment of lights hanging within the crown like a constellation. |
I'm waiting for the lighting, you need lighting to hang on billionaire's rown.

Almost looks like the cheap light strings they hang in shopping malls at Christmas.
But, of course, it will have to be a little heavier-duty than that :) |
Wow 111 W 57th is beating CPT, but CPT did some quiet move right before 111 W 57th’s back finished cladding.
