DUBAI | Jumeirah Gardens Supertalls (3 towers) | 101-201 FLOORS | ON HOLD

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else so I thought I'd start a thread for this group of Dubai super-talls designed by Smith + Gill. . .

Dubai will become city of supertowers
By Saifur Rahman, Business Editor - Published: May 04, 2008, 00:12

Dubai: The city will have the largest number of supertowers - buildings that rise more than 100 habitable floors - as five more will be added to the seven under development, Gulf News has learnt.

The new supertowers are part of a cluster of 11 projects worth Dh25 billion to be built in a major master-planned development that will be announced in October.

"All five supertowers will be about 600 metres tall - rising more than 100 floors. These are some of the most unique projects incorporating the latest building technologies and consuming up to 60 per cent less energy," Adrian Smith, who designed Burj Dubai - currently the world's tallest tower - told Gulf News in an exclusive interview.

those are awesome!! i really like the design of the second one

BrandonJXN May 4, 2008 4:50 PM

The second one is really nice. The other 2 are crap.

Grumpy May 4, 2008 7:14 PM

The 3rd one looks like a space station , the 2nd is ugly , the 1st is kind a nice

malec May 4, 2008 7:31 PM

Insane!! I'm most curious about the location of these, hopefully not out in the middle of nowhere. Although in the middle of nowhere is where they'll probably go, don't know where else they could build them.

I also really doubt all of them will be built. They're starting to have problems now, with prices of raw materials going through the roof, cement shortages, etc.

Adrian Smith interview from today's GulfNews talks about the East Park and Atrium City towers. . .

'Dubai gives the necessary freedom designers need'

05/09/2008 06:15 PM | By Saifur Rahman, Business Editor
Dubai: He has designed some of the world's tallest towers, but does not live in one.

"I'd loved to, but I can't afford one," said architect Adrian Smith, partner at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, who also designed Burj Dubai, currently the world's tallest man-made structure with 160 floors.

"I prefer living close to the ground," he said. "In fact, my wife prefers living near the soil."

Sailing a boat through the base of a supertall - interesting concept.
I like EP 15. EP 7 doesn't look good in the daylight render, better in the twilight one.
The three pronged one is freaky, but it is Dubai, it'll fit right in.

Best of the bunch.

Some amazing development as usual. But I would prefer they surround these towers with some density.
All that open spaces makes it theme-parkish, with one tower having no real connection to any other.

As usual, I agree with NYguy. Towers in a park isn't building an urban city, it's building the Corbusian dream (that worked out great in all those European 'burbs right?)

THat last rendering of hte triple tower gets me. In a good way. Having a canal pass under like that? awesome to the max!.

Adrian Smith does it again.

What part of Dubai will those projects be located in?

No one knows expect for people that are involved in the project. The developer and location will be announced at a later date.

The three of them are sculptural.
I'm starting to lose sight of what a skyscraper should look like.

Lecom Jun 21, 2008 8:20 PM

AC Towers involve some amazing concepts. For a while I've been thinking as to why no one has ever put up a serious proposal for a building involving suspension bridge technology (not counting Hugh Ferris' Art-Deco visions), and having a channel run through a navigable glass grotto by the base of the building... well that's just mindblowing. Adrian Smith did it again.

NDPhilly Jun 27, 2008 4:19 PM

The AC towers look like something out of Star Wars

Dequal Jun 27, 2008 5:22 PM

The Atrium City Towers just don't look great... The idea of the water beneath the tower is a cool thing, but the tower itself is just ugly... with all those wires in between... Strange that they design such a thing, when they designed the nicer skyscrapers of East Park.

Definitely some great designs there, hopefully more of these can pop up somewhere.

Lt. Washburn Jun 28, 2008 4:21 AM

I like these, the first best of all. I like Dubai is allowing so many different and weird buildings get constructed. You don't have to play favorites with one design being built to the exclusion of others. Just build all of them.
