Looks like AC closed YUL-LYS this week, previously 5x weekly was planned.

Wonder if AC will move NCE back to be with all other flights to France...

Maybe TS tries making it year round next winter?

With Porter expanding out west, would that officially make it Canada's 3rd largest carrier? Flair has assumed that title for the past year or so.

The official metric for that is passengers carried, and TS is firmly in third place on that count, at least for now.

And it is probably still second in terms of largest TATL carrier.

I wanna say it comes back as a 321XLR route.

32J on a 330 is a lot for LYS.

thenoflyzone Dec 17, 2022 11:02 PM

^ especially when GVA is right next door.

I always thought between AC, TS and LX, there was a lot of capacity from YUL to Switzerland, LYS and BSL.

That whole region is extremely well served from YUL, now with MXP in the mix as well.

zahav Dec 18, 2022 1:35 PM

The 321XLR will make so many more routes viable, I feel like AT will be vulnerable once AC takes deliveries. I don't like the idea of an AC monopoly so I hope AT sticks around, but I feel like AC will want to edge them out of the European market. They probably won't get rid of them from sun/leisure routes, but they might bully them out of the secondary European destinations once the 321s come in. Europe is already somewhat over-served, so AC might be able to gain market share. But AT has a solid reputation in Quebec so maybe AC won't succeed in stealing market share from AT, it's all speculation at this point.

Revenue is likely more official.

Few people think SouthWest equal to United. SouthWest carries roughly the same number of passengers (they were switching back and forth before 2020); but United's revenue (2019) was double that of SouthWests.

Which will be harder to do in Canada.
Porter is private, its revenue is estimated for public.
Flair is private, their revenue is estimated
West Jet is now private, while we have historicals, moving forward we don't know what is it.
Transat will likely be in the 2 Billion revenue for 2022. Likley much higher than Flair. I would be shocked if flair is doing more than 300-500M in revenue for the year.

WS flanker WO are suspending YOW for the winter. Was originally planned for all three YOW routes (YEG, YHZ & YWG) to be year-round. Last flight for the winter 09JAN23.

On many forums we see a decrease in flights from Swoop. I'd be curious to see a full list of cancellations/reductions. As many, is WS ramping down WO? I would think they would have done with that one big swoop. Sorry I had to throw that lame joke in. Anyways, my other thought is maybe they are actually trying to improve their schedule to move away from flight delays and cancellations as well. I'm not sure how much slack Swoop's fleet has.

AC pulled direct flights from YYC to Victoria and Nanaimo, they want to be more focused on their hubs. They say there is plenty of capacity through YVR. this must also be that lack of pilots.

Nanaimo Airport Authority seeking to replace the lost AC flights with additional WS flights. Wonder if Victoria Airport Authority will follow suit?

If WS has the people they could. The Nanaimo authority may make it economical for WS.

I hope they focus on getting Alaska to go back to twice daily instead of only daily service to Seattle.

Getting United to restart San Francisco would also be a plus. However given it was operated with a 50 seater CRJ not likely.

Getting Delta to restart the Seattle flight would also be a plus.

We already have several flights a day on WestJet to Calgary, Kelowna and Vancouver. Not certain they need to push to hard on WestJet. Perhaps try to encourage WestJet to fly a 737 on all the Calgary flights. Currently it is a mix of 737 and Q400.

Not so sure about YYJ but I believe in the CBC article they also said YXE/YQR are pushing for more WS flights. Already (next spring) WS is increasing YYC-YKA up to 4x daily, YQR up to 7x daily, YXE up to 9x daily and it seems like YCD is getting its 3rd YYC flight back 7 days a week.

Just over 70 000 passengers at YVR today. Which is just under our yearly total lol.

This is with extreme winter conditions. There is what nearly 10 cm of snow today coupled with -7 C. Cancelled flights etc.

Those people that live east of Hope may laugh but it is only because they don't understand.

Canadian air travel will be an absolute nightmare later this week ahead of the Christmas holidays. Gonna be Interesting to see how each airline deals with the impending mega storm hitting Ontario.

Definitely not going to be near 70,000 with with all the snow today. Barely any departures after 7pm, but tons of arrivals. Now looks like at least 10 planes are waiting for gate past 12am because no one is able to leave. I guess those are going to count for tomorrow's number?

Calfan12 Dec 20, 2022 10:52 AM

Vancouver YVR in Western Canada is experiencing delays up to 1hour & 30 minutes this Tuesday December 20th morning according to FlightAware tracking website & also included few late night YVR to Asia/Australia/Mexico international flights are delayed up to 2hours due to the snowy weather /low visibility.

Plus some late night flight arrivals for Monday December 19 are still waiting for gates to park at YVR & running low on fuel too.

Weather does effect things for all airports/ flights.

Good luck (if) your going to travel this Christmas holidays 2022!

Toronto area expecting a Snowstorm later this week, that could effect passengers in Canada during the busiest Christmas travel season & at Toronto Pearson YYZ Canada’s busiest airport ✈️ too.

Toronto braces for snowstorm late this week that could affect Christmas travel plans.
Mother Nature is doing her part to ensure Toronto has a white Christmas this year as Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the GTA in advance of what it’s calling a significant winter storm.

The weather agency says that warmer temperatures could see rain or wet snow begin to fall late on Thursday before potentially transitioning to rain in Toronto early Friday.

That is when temperatures are expected to drop rather significantly, which Environment Canada says will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds along with snow that may be heavy at times.
