I wasn't aware we had a "great (pop) concert venue" of this size. The Civic Auditoreum is sort of a joke in modern terms and where else is there that can hold these vast numbers? Moscone? Cow Palace? Niether is really very suitable as shown by the fact that big touring bands have skipped San Francisco.

Aside from concerts, I've heard that this venue will also be used by very tall men playing a game involving balls and hoops.

SBC/Pac Bell/ATT Park ain't exactly a good venue for when it's rainy or cold, something not unfamiliar in SF.
Will there be a transfer station for the new T- line/ central subway and BART for those coming from east bay to get to the new arena?

Powell St Station will be connected to Union Sq station by underground passage, so to answer your question, yes.

Another argument is that open air venues aren't exactly acoustically conducive to concerts, besides the point that blaring music annoys the fuck out of the neighbors. This arena will be much much better than anything else available in SF. And the fact that the taxpayers didn't have to contribute anything for it is a huge win.

I've lived within a few blocks of the stadium for some time. It is harder to hear the concerts than you might think. It might be different in higher floors of buildings literally right across from the park, but I think you knew what you were in for if you rented, bought there.

Honestly, fans being rowdy past 11:30 or midnight is the only thing people I've talked to have had a problem with, and that's rare. Usually a call to the police for a noise complaint sorts that one out pretty quick.

Anyway, yes, the new stadium will certainly be one of the choice venues in SF.

AT&T Park has no roof. It is an outdoor venue. It is not comparable to other indoor venues. It may work when the weather's good which is about 6 or 7 months in San Francisco. That isn't good enough for a "world class city". Period.
