I thought we might get lucky with the picture being from the census year of 1930.

Living at 845 W 41st St that year were John A. and Jennie Berry, 69 and 64 years old. They were transplanted Iowans and had no children. Both John and Jen(nie) appear on the list of names, so I think it's them. Not much help on the Aurie/Annie issue :???:

I'm guessing that it is a water tank.

A very rare photograph of the interior of a real estate office in Los Angeles. [c.1890s]

"Original Photograph: Real Estate Pioneers McGarry Sexton Los Angeles, Broadway(?) 1890's."

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/1bAqsI.jpg
Ebay

mmm...wall to wall carpeting. nice touch.

There's more to this photograph than first meets the eye.

After studying the room, I believe there are, at least, three different real estate firms in this ONE location.

At first, I thought this might be a Realtor's Club of some sort)

First of all, there is the 'Sexton & Grider' sign on the back wall.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/UInam0.jpg
detail

..and Fred Sexton's desk (is that Fred?)

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/DRLo59.jpg
detail

note the cheerful secretary.

On the left side of the room there is a sign for McGarry & Innes.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/IL8nrq.jpg
detail

On the left edge, and partially cut off, there is..yet another, sign.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/QNXWiV.jpg
detail

All we see of this sign is...NCE and LLAN.

It appears a cabinet has been moved. (perhaps to make room for McGarry & Innes)

sooooooooooo.....

If my calculations are correct.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/tyXFbr.jpg
Ebay

Grider and Sexton could easily be switched around. (but in the end --I decided to place Sexton next to the his desk.

Now, all we need to do is figure out what building this office was [located in].

It's gonna' be difficult. (I know, because I tried) I came up with all kinds of different addresses. I wasn't able to pin it down to one place.

Postscript:

The seller believes the duo on the far left (with 1/3 of the sign showing) might be....

"At the front left side appears to be an insurance business and notary public, though the sign is partially cropped, it may have been for Mclellan Insurance,
as the estate sale appears to have had some connection with George Mclellan."

Postscript 2

"Los Angeles real estate office located at 108 South Broadway." THE SELLER

This would have saved me a lot of time! I looked through a dozen directories trying to figure out THE ADDRESS. :pissed:

hmmm... could the seller be incorrect?

Geez, prime real estate! :frog:

The tank may also be a water recovery tank for oil drilling. There are some operating oil wells in my neighborhood and there are tanks about this size near them. They're used to separate and store the water that comes up in some wells.

Reminds me of the old song "Just a Bird in a Gilded Cage."

The Night John Belushi Died

The Hollywood Reporter is running a story on the death of John Belushi at the Chateau Maramont, on March 5, 1982, while he was living in Bungalow 3.
HBO is about to run a series on the book The Castle On Sunset.

The article details his final days. Drugs did him in.

Read the Hollywood Reporter article here:

What struck me was that, while Belushi was in L.A. killing himself with drugs, Dan Aykroyd was in New York writing the script for Ghostbusters.
Aykroyd was writing Ghostbusters with the expectation that Belushi was going to be part of the movie.

What would Ghostbusters have been like with Belushi in it? What part would he have played?

As an off duty job I worked security there two nights a week from 12 am to 6am. Many movie and music people stayed there. Lot of dope around with them. One night a rock group was staying there and as I started to make my rounds a package of Cocaine and a gas torch fell out of a window almost right next to me. Why they threw it out the window I don't know. I gave it to the black and white patroling the area. I left that job a week before Belushi died. I suppose nothing has changed there.

Dunno if it'll help, e-r, but my Guesstimator® tells me that our streetcar's on Larchmont Blvd. a little south of Melrose Ave. As you might recall, a number of Stooge's street scenes were filmed in/around this neighborhood due to its convenient proximity to the Paramount lot.

I didn't find any of the adjoining structures pictured, as sizable apartment buildings have taken most of both sides of Larchmont here. But maybe the Paramount reference will help someone ID the starlets.

This came up on a show I watched last week (I can't remember which one). Apparently, Bill Murray's part was written for Belushi. That would've been a very different movie.

Larchmont would make it the old 3 line. Coming from downtown via 6th St, then a private right-of-way next to Wilton Pl up to 3rd St, then 3rd St to Larchmont and up to near Melrose. It may have been cut back in later years. It was converted to trolley bus in 1947, when 5th and 6th Sts were made into one-way streets in the downtown area.

Could the car just have arrived very end of the line? The tracks just seem to end. If that's so, it might help to identify the location?
