What a wild week for routes and cancellations!

AC does big YYC cuts
WS does YYZ cuts, adds code shares from YYC
PORTER does their massive west expansion
FLAIR does domestic cuts
SWOOP does domestic cuts + one "new" route

With Porter expanding out west, would that officially make it Canada's 3rd largest carrier? Flair has assumed that title for the past year or so.

Air Transat has 31 aircraft, Flair 27 and Porter 29 before they get any of their jets.

Depends on how you count.

What’s with the slow but steady trickle of announcements? Do one big one and call it a day….it’s not like Porter didn’t know last week that they were going to serve YYC.

So they get more attention this way? See how much discussion in this thread this week.

YYZ-YYC actually appear hidden when I tried to decode their route map yesterday. I guess there's a way to peek at their route info now :D

I guess YWG is the next to be announced? After all, they already created a directory to upload the images for YWG on their server. I don't see a YYZ-YWG hidden in the route map yet, but YEG-YWG and YQT-YWG are somehow bookable route pairs (if YWG hidden status is removed)... And all the available connections for YQM and YFC are interesting too...

Where is YWG-YQT and YEG-YWG bookable?

Not bookable right now because YWG is hidden. But once they announce YWG and unhide it from the route map, then it'll show up in the route selection unless they remove it before that.

Canadian North (1)

9 total additional new routes announced on 5 different airlines so far.

While Air Canada at YYC has been stagnant/cutting some routes, the last several years.

Why throw away good money when the others will bleed each other dry?

Elaborate please. Are you implying an impending announcement of Porter jet service to Pearson from both Freddy and Moncton???

Well, YFC and YQM are bookable from YVR/YEG/YYC, currently with 2 stops through YYZ and YOW with very few available dates. Not sure if that's was the intension, or they are going to announce YYZ-YFC/YQM, or YOW-YVR/YEG/YYC? Note that other 2 stops options through YOW (such as YHZ/YQB) are not available though.

Now it makes total sense as to why YQT-YOW is twice daily at least one of those will probably continue YQT-YWG and one YTZ-YQT will probably do the same.

Safe to say YWG is coming in some shape or form. YOW-YQT-YWG-YEG Dash 8 transcon route perhaps?

That's beautiful. Really.

Will the airport do anything similar in the waiting areas? Other than people-watching, once you're past security and at the gate, there really isn't much that's interesting.

Air Canada Calgary YYC - Terrace YXT previously started up pre pandemic, they’re just resuming it. It’s not brand new routing for YYC.

It suspended during the last few years due to Covid19 pandemic.

Also WestJet has resumed the YYC - YXT flight route too, (seasonally), as currently it’s scheduled to end of April 2023.

AC resumes its YYC - YXT route again 2x weekly for Spring/Summer 2023.

Air Canada inflight entertainment has new features now. Good for Sports fans & the 1's that enjoys the news world wide✅!!

Air Canada has upped their game with exclusive new in-flight features.

With the holiday season upon us, thousands will be travelling across the country to see their loved ones. And if you’re someone who tends to get super bored on flights, we’ve got good news.

Thanks to Air Canada, flying just got a whole lot better — especially for sports fans. The airline has recently launched Live TV on select domestic flights, which means passengers will no longer miss out on exciting live-action sports games while in the air.

With six live channels in both English and French, passengers will also be able to keep up-to-date with live national news onboard.

TV programming consists of TSN 1, TSN 2, and RDS, which will deliver comprehensive live sports coverage for marquee sports events including soccer, hockey, basketball, football, baseball, and more; CTV News Channel for 24-hour worldwide breaking news; LCN, Quebec’s all-news station; and BNN Bloomberg for all things new in the business and finance world.

I can see the YXT being added. With LNG ramping up to possibly 7000 workers over the next year then current charter service will not keep up. Interestingly my flight out last week had at least have the people lining up at the YYC and YEG flights as soon as we deplaned.

YEG may not get a YXT though because of the charters. The current one goes into YEG first then stops in YYC if there is a load or on Fridays when the LNG Canada and Flour staff fly home.

Holy crap, I didn't notice how many aircraft flair currently has.

27 Max and 3 NG's.

Their growth is even more rapid than I originally thought

One of my favorite memories on a plane was being on a nearly empty WS YXU-YYC flight back when they had live TV. My family and I each had a 3 seats to ourselves and we took full advantage of putting multiples screens on different TV channels.
