Not surprising given how hard it was to interline as O&D traffic per flight has probably rarely broken the double digits given it's just as fast to drive or take the train or bus. The fact that YGK's on the SW corner of Kingston city limits in the opposite direction of Montreal and far from the majority of Kingston residents, doesn't help either. On top of that, the YGK-YUL route connects to absolutely nada of the rest of Pascan's network - not even to YQB where there might actually have been a bit of traffic.

I suspect YVR-LGW will get dropped. When they updated the schedule over the weekend the route was basically left untouched well all of the YYC routes got their scheduled times adjusted.

They may even not fly it on domestic turns either.

The domestic / transborder schedule will likely be updated early in the new year.

That makes sense, I'd assume the same fate awaits YYZ-EDI? Its schedule looks like a carbon copy of S22 with no adjustments either.

Not surprising.

Very few people use YGK airport here. There's too few flights a day and YUL, YYZ, and YOW aren't that far away, so the preference is to just to drive (for YUL or YOW) or take VIA (in the case of YYZ).

Pre-COVID, Air Canada used to run 3x daily from YGK to YYZ and the flight got some ridership - just enough to keep it alive, but it still wasn't that popular.

The city screwed up big time with spending millions of dollars on expanding the airport a few years ago, and one of the ways they "paid for it" was to increase parking fees. It's now no cheaper to park in YGK than it is park at a shuttle-to-terminal offlot in Montreal or Ottawa.

If they want people to use YGK, they should do what small city American airports do and just offer free parking. That would get people to take international trips from YGK with YYZ/YUL connections.

Kingston AC serviced probably suffered by the reduction in the Dash 8 fleet. Similar to London, I would rather take a connecting flight to Toronto than deal with starting or ending a flight in Toronto. And Pearson is on the opposite side of the GTA from Kingston as well. London had upwards of 10-12 AC flights to Toronto per weekday pre pandemic and have something like 4 now. I'm not sure how full those are, but I suspect that if they still had all their smaller Dash 8's, we would have more flights, and so would a place like Kingston.

YUL posted Oct 2022 numbers. (All percentages based on 2019 numbers.)

https://www.admtl.com/sites/default/...et_2022_EN.pdf

Total: 1,533,095 -5.6%

Domestic: 539,485 -13.9%
International: 634,683 +1.7%
Transborder: 358,927 -3.9%

So now within 5.6% of 2019 numbers for the month. That's the highest it's been all year. International numbers were actually higher than 2019 by 1.7%. Transborder is nearly there as well.

If this keeps up - and all signs point to yes - 2023 will see YUL beat it's 2019 numbers and top 20 million once again.

I have a feeling markets like Kingston and Sarnia will return to the AC fold if & when the 30 seat hybrid electric aircraft gets introduced into AC's fleet. It would also be the prime aircraft for YXU-YYZ to go back up to 10-12 daily.

AC's full domestic summer schedule is out (or at least the part they want to tell you about): https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...874199727.html

Highlights include:
-A new 3x/week YMM-YUL on Rouge 319
-YQB-YVR increasing to 5x weekly
-Reinstatement of the following suspended routes:
-->YMM-YYZ 4x/week Rouge 319 (pre-pandemic was mainline daily)
-->YXU-YUL DH4 daily
-->YQX-YYZ CR9 daily

Trunk routes out of hubs are back up to pre-pandemic levels in most cases now. However, they announced in the PR YEG-YUL at 4x daily and YVR-YUL at 6x daily but so far both of those show up at 3x and 5x respectively.

Shockingly (lol) all the cut routes out of YYC and YOW aren't featured. YOW was thrown a bone about widebody service on YVR-YOW that isn't even something new.

AC now learn to announce first before schedule update and open the new service for reservation so they can be the first to break the news. The schedule also does not have most of the changes yet (especially new route), so I'll expect them to update the schedule tonight, at 1am EST.

And the fact that they didn't make announce of the cut most likely means the cuts are permanent. Seems like they only make announcement for temporary suspension and intended to return at a later date, as they made two (!!) announcements for the YVR-DEL suspension.

Interesting... a feeder move to Europe as a response to WJ?

Route
Frequency (Summer 2023 versus Summer 2022)
Edmonton-Montreal Increases to four times daily from twice daily

YUL-Fort Mac.....It's not as exotic as YYC getting BCN, EDI or NRT, but we'll take it...;)

That would make sense, the numbers still commuting to Ft Mac.

It seems like all Flair flights from YQB have now disappeared from the booking system, less than a week after their announcement. Does it mean that they already decided to cut those flights? They announced last week direct flights to YEG and YHZ starting next summer.

Maybe YQB doesn't have enough airstairs to accomodate these flights....:D

Or maybe the YQB darts from the Flair route planning dartboard fell to the ground this week, so Flair simply forgot about them.

We are laughing, but its two very plausible answers.

Looks like some schedule adjustment. Now it's back in the system.

End of an Era

I remember the great dust plooms when these jets took off.

Jet service to Nunavut community to end as Canadian North retires last jet that can land on gravel
This spring, Canadian North airline will retire the last jet in their fleet that can land safely on Cambridge Bay's gravel runway.

For years, the community of about 1,800 has been served by a Boeing 737-200 series jet.

On April 1, 2023, the company is planning to phase out the jet and replace it with smaller turbo-prop airplanes.

Speaking of Flair, their inaugural London flight from and to Tuscon was about 6 or 7 hours late yesterday. Fog in Tuscon was the stated reason. I wonder if anyone actually took the flight to London? Can't blame the weather, but the timing certainly sucks, when they had festivities planned at YXU for the inaugural. Hope it's not a bad omen going forward.

Starting Tuesday, February 14, 2023
New Direct Route

Sure Air Canada is cutting YYC - YZF nonstop flights as of January 15.

WestJet will get competition on it from Canadian North .

AC didn't mention some routes that were already mentioned on here days ago as having increases (ie. YVR-YHZ going 13x weekly). I wonder if this means they are going to adjust that schedule and remove something? Or just they didn't mention all increases?

Has AC always operated YYZ-HND and YYZ-NRT with only 20 mins apart? Looks like NRT departs at 13:05 and HND at 13:25. I bet there will be some confusion there with pax maybe not realizing which airport in Tokyo they are going to (airline nerds know HND vs. NRT but a lot of people might not). Having them depart basically at the same time is kind of strange?
