One more airline just suspended service to Canada.

TAP Air Portugal went down to two flights per week to Toronto until March 31 and now down to zero flights until May 4

WS has now removed all international flights until April 30.

BCN and FCO have both been delayed until June. YHZ-MAN has been completely removed and appears to be cancelled?

With their 767 fleet grounded, will BCN move to 787 service?

That is a major cruise ship port. I don't think there is going to be a strong desire from the general public to go on a cruise, especially overseas. AC goes back to before Rouge only had 2-3 767 without international business class and that market was where they sent those birds.


Is BCN still a viable route? Not certain what market WestJet was after on that route.

So far, it still shows as a 763. Presently WestJet has grounded all of its 767s, and 737-800s, and 3 of its 4 787s. I've heard rumblings that they are planning to retire them all early, but its unconfirmed as of now.

Looking at the transborder schedule, looks like all international and US flights are presently planned to resume May 5.

Looks like Air Canada is storing a bunch of aircraft at Kansas City Airport (MCI) today.

I think they have a bunch a Mirabel too.

I just happened to glance at FR24 yesterday and caught an AC 777 going to Marana, which stores a lot of aircraft.

I'd be surprised if any of these operate at all this summer. YHZ hasn't had much luck with new WS transatlantic route announcements actually getting off the ground. Last year it was CDG due to the MAX and now this summer MAN thanks to COVID-19.

Speaking of luck, LH have pulled YOW-FRA (metal swap with AC) before even the first flight. My in-laws were going to take one of LH's first flights in May. Hopefully LH will launch YOW-FRA in summer 2021. YOW was going to have a record year, now the airport will be lucky to break 3 million = 1996 traffic levels.

Looks like YEG-YQU has been suspended until further notice.

I suspect LGW will still operate this summer, maybe even the other UK routes / CDG. As for FCO & BCN the jury is still out given the situation in Spain and Italy.

Just putting this out there for opinions, I have a trip booked for the end of May with BA (outbound) and United (return), paid for with points and credit card for taxes, etc. All flights booked through the respective airlines' frequent flyer program portals. Our initial thought was to wait and let the airlines cancel the booking vs us doing so preemptively. Any alternative thoughts?

Are you hoping to go, or hoping it gets cancelled? If you are hoping it gets cancelled, is there a benefit to you for them to cancel instead of you cancelling? Are they letting you cancel penalty free right now, or are you hoping for some perks should they cancel on you?

The last time I checked, the airlines weren't addressing our travel dates. Obviously, it would have been our preference to go, not only for the well-deserved (and long-anticipated) vacation (our first in years), but also because it was black magic to get the dates and destination and itinerary we wanted on points. With that said, we're very clearly going to err on the side of caution and cannot imagine that the crisis is going to be over in less than two months.

In addition to Cathay Pacific, there is Air Canada YVR-HKG 2x week during April.

It's a good move, but it's not as if airports would have payed huge rent to the government this year anyways.

Rent is a percentage of airport revenues, and as airport revenues will be in the toilet this year, rent would have followed. So the figure of $331.4 million that is quoted in the government press release is just fluff. Airports wouldn't have payed that much this year anyways.
