I didn't have a theory, I just said farming out the route to an old A340 operated by a different airline is not a strong move.

The A350 is welcome news, though it lacks first class it is a great plane.

AC43 DEL-YVR with 1:45am arrival
AC1043 YVR-YYZ with 3:30am departure and 10:51am arrival

AC42 still run YYZ-DEL non-stop.

I guess YYZ-bound passengers will clear custom at YVR in the middle of the night? I wonder if each segments can be booked separately...

Arrival time at YYZ is pretty much the same with DEL-CPH-YYZ, but should be slightly better if it becomes domestic arrival?

What a bizarre world that this is the most sensible solution.

Never thought I'd see DEL-YVR go double daily :haha:

I always wondered if this was possible. Good to see I wasn't the only one.

I wonder if they can put solar panels on the wings to keep costs down.

The stop has been changed to YVR, since AC now routes DEL-Canada flights eastbound out of DEL, over the Pacific. This is done mainly to avoid Pakistani airspace. When Pakistan opens its airspace for overflights, the fuel stop wont be required.

The eastbound routing (as opposed to northwestbound out of DEL), takes advantage of the tailwinds, even if distance wise, it's a longer route.

Am I misunderstanding what is happening here because I have been on many flights that stop in one city before continuing on to another (only dropping off passengers) and those continuing on do not deplane and will clear customs at their final destination.

Passengers always clear customs/immigration at the first point of arrival in Canada. Thus, you would clear at YVR regardless of the onward tag to YYZ.

This is how it's done on AC GVA-YUL-YYZ, as an example.

Because the YUL-YYZ leg can be sold separately no? I remember back maybe 10 or 12 years ago, Olympic and Czech Airlines were both stoping in YUL, disembarking the YUL passengers and keeping the YYZ passengers on board. Both flight would go on to YYZ with the remaining of the passengers clearing customs in YYZ. Can this still be done? Or there is a new law or something that now requires airlines to have their passengers clear customs at the first point of arrival in canada?

As I said earlier, that has not been my experience which was why I was asking. As a matter of fact I have not been on any flights that required clearing customs and then reboarding. Unless of course the second segment is a domestic leg that picks up passengers for the second leg.

AC says passengers bound for YYZ or Eastern Canada/US will remain on board during the stop in YVR.

If your destination is Toronto, Eastern Canada or the Eastern United States, you will remain on board during the Vancouver stop. Only passengers whose destination is Vancouver, Western Canada or the Western United States) will disembark.
So they will be selling DEL-YVR segment as a standalone flight, but not the YVR-YYZ segment?

This is really interesting. In theory there would not have been YVR bound passengers on this flight. Have they opened DEL-YVR for sale, and if so why?

Possibly demand from and in consort with other airlines having issues with closed Pakistan airspace?

Many questions - I have no answers.

Edit:
I didn't consider the possibility of connecting passengers from YYZ-YVR now travelling non-stop.

Interesting. CBSA policy might have changed, or AC might have gotten a waiver by CBSA in order to do that. Could have something to do with the 1h30am arrival into YVR. (I'm thinking lack of CBSA staffing at night)

From what I've read in the past, it was CBSA policy for international passengers to report to the CBSA at the first port of arrival (FPOA) in Canada.

3 words.

Secure hold room.

Definition: a room that has been approved by CBSA where international passengers and their goods remain in a controlled environment pending processing by the CIS, or until their departure to a point outside Canada, or to another point in Canada (for CIS processing).

RJ does this on AMM-YUL-DTW.

Also, read about "progressive flights".

Travelling on Sunwing to Cancun from Toronto, we stopped in Cozumel first and were kept in a secure room whilst the Cozumel bound guests were processed then we got back on and continued to Cancun.

That certainly isn't what happened last year on my CUN-YQT-YWG fight.

YVR regularly receive planes at night though.. so I believe it's staffed 24/7...?

For instance, CX have daily arrival from JFK at 12:45am.

Seasonal second daily 4O flights from MEX and/or CUN usually arrives between 1:20am to 3:40am.

PR used to have 4x weekly from JFK arriving at 3:30am.

That was my experience a couple of weeks ago. YEG-SEA, not a single seat available on the afternoon Horizon flight. Then Delta SEA-YVR, one empty seat. Then WS YVR-YEG, not an available seat. Don’t ask me about Flair to PSP, though. 😂
