I totally agree. I don't get why YVR gets so many awards; it looks like a Moana theme park.

YVR really hits the sweet spot between being big enough to have the amenities of a major world airport, but it's small enough to be manageable without being overwhelming. Yeah the décor isn't cutting edge anymore, but it's still a very tough airport to beat IMO... I can see why it keeps winning awards.

Hit the nail on the head.

I get that design elements are important, but not as important as they're made out to be. Most people don't go to a city for the airport. As long as the airport has (A) decent connections to where people want to go and (B) it's not a zoo of humanity, people will generally like it. Vancouver hits that sweet spot.

I would say the design is quite different than the common design you see today of high ceiling white washed beams with glass everywhere. That does not mean it is dated or bad. It is just different.

The last year has been pretty rough on YEG... between oil and hub rework, so yes, very strong.

Posted on August 14, 2017 by Hamilton International.

Hamilton International reports significant growth in passenger and cargo numbers for first half of 2017

Hamilton, ON (August 14, 2017) – John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is pleased to welcome The Honourable Marc Garneau MP and Minister of Transport tomorrow August 15, 2017. The Minister will meet with Airport officials as well as take a tour of the airside facilities and the Airport grounds. Hamilton International is also pleased to announce that for the first half of 2017, the Airport has seen significant passenger traffic growth of 127% with 269,901 passengers compared to 118,890 passengers the same period last year, making it one of the fastest growing airports in Canada. That number is expected to further grow to close to 500,000 passengers by year end.

In addition to passenger growth, the Airport continues to be Canada’s largest overnight express cargo airport. Through the first half of 2017, Hamilton International’s cargo volume has increased 19% placing Hamilton International at the centre of goods movement in Canada. The Airport continues to maintain the position as a hub for e-commerce in Canada connecting to its destinations coast to coast and beyond to global markets in Europe and South America.

New Leaf/Flair seems to be having a dramatic impact on YHM. Both times I've flown out of there this year the airport has been bustling with activity.

Given the proximity it has to the largest population base in Canada, I'd say it was one of the most underused airports in the country. Also, it had a demonstrated history of being able to cope with a reasonably large number of passengers - Westjet used it as their eastern base until 2004.

Would be nice to hit the 500,000 mark again and eventually work towards the 1 million mark, as it was before WestJet left the eastern hub to Pearson.

Nope, +14.8% is correct. Now put your blue and white pompoms down and start to accept that YEG turning things around following a litany of difficult circumstances dragging it backwards is kind of a big deal for this region, and "strong performance" was not implied in a national context.

:haha: anyone else find it comical that someone from Quebec, a province with almost twice as many people as Alberta is suggesting that YEG numbers isn't good enough?... especially since province of Quebec has one of the smallest per capita number of flyer's & with Alberta's airport PAX numbers are almost double Quebec's

I wasn't talking about - or + from a table, I was talking about your remark that airport numbers were presumably "not good enough" in your judgment about something.. especially since one would think Montreal would have an airport more than double YEG size since Montreal is 3x Edmonton's population. Therefore I had to... :burstbubble

thanks for presuming I have the highly prestigious occupation of a farm boy, unfortunately I can't claim to grow enough food for tens of thousands of the world's population each year like a farm boy would :(
What have you done for tens of thousands of the world's population each year as important as feeding them?

right... and Edmonton is what ? 200k less than Calgary? and YEG is at what 7-8 million a year? YUL is double YEG and then some and soon YUL will be way ahead of YYC too. And lets be honest here... domestic dominates YYC and YEG... ya it still counts but its always the same people travelling back and forth. You want to talk MAJOR airport? international?? remember its not population that counts... you stay in your little hut in sask ill stay in wonderful Montreal :).

Using your logic, YUL should be way farther ahead of either YYC or YEG in passenger counts what with it having around triple the CMA population of those two Alberta centers and it should've been way farther ahead for decades already. There's more to this than just simple population counts.
