Great news for WestJet. I was only recently thinking that it would be good for them to get some 787s for longer/more popular routes.

Nice. I got a direct flight from Toronto to Lima a few years ago. Heaven. Longest distance that I ever traveled without jetlag (same or nearly same time zone).

A bit of competition for COPA's Montreal - Panama City flights, although it's hard to beat PTY for ongoing connections.

YUL technically already had South America service, with TS to CTG, but nonetheless, it's nice to see YUL get deep South America service, and before BOS too !

AC is expanding insanely quick internationally this year.

Vancouver - Melbourne (although for a very short season) is also exciting.

... I don't think so... I believe it is part of the regular scheduled flights. 1 weekly winter only.

Excited for the YVR-Melbourne route, this one has been a long time in the making and I would be shocked if this 2 month trial didn't get extended.

Tourism is the main draw of this flight. And we know french Canadians like to travel abroad. In recent years, Peru has established itself as one of the world’s most interesting and unique tourism destinations. Machu Picchu alone draws thousands of tourists every year.

AC clearly has access to just how many Quebecers connected in YYZ for the LIM flight, and so with enough demand, the route is launched. It also helps that according to the 2011 census, the largest Peruvian Canadian population lies in Quebec. Negligible really, (roughly 15,000 back then) but still worth mentioning.

Cargo uplift might also be a factor and should help round up the profit margins of this flight. Peru is the world's main exporter of asparagus. It's a half a billion dollar industry every year, and why an airline like DL sends the 777 down to LIM during certain periods.

No, as was said, these are scheduled flights. Most of TS's network is scheduled, contrary to popular belief.

It did earlier in the decade but was underperforming so it was cancelled.

YUL growth of 8.1% YoY in March for a total of 1 481k.

I don't know why that is, but my impression is that Arizona as a vacation destination isn't as popular with Québécois as it is with the rest of Canadians. People just don't think about going there. I know very few people in Quebec who have been to Arizona, while many of my colleagues in Ontario go there, mostly those who enjoy golfing.

^Do Quebeckers prefer beaches? Arizona's big negative is that there's no beach. The other negative is that the dead of winter (i.e. Dec- early Feb) is not really all that warm (5C nights, 16C days, some chance of rain).

The Phoenix area really shines (literally) in November and from mid-February to mid-April.

This site is even better. It shows all commercial jets in the air. Also if you choose your airport it will isolate all the flights coming (blue) and going (green) associated with that airport.
