Certainly has proved to be a mistake so far, we'll see if this is looked back on as growing pains or a strategic misstep.

In other news YUL posted strong growth of 6.1% last month, led of all things by domestic growth of 10%!

That is thanks to AC adding a 2nd A333 on YUL-YVR. Morning flight AC111 was always an A320.

So SATA air Azores actually does LIS-PDL-YUL !

I recently was in BC and I found flying out from Abbotsford to be a great experience. Barely any lineup for either baggage or security, and Westjet appears to have more customer-facing staff than even YYZ.

Got to love small airports for that.

Fewer flights to look after usually means very easy going travel.

This isn't the result of just one flight getting a bump in equipment.

YUL saw 52,000 more passengers this past May compared to the same month last year. An A333 alone cannot give you numbers like that. It's a clear sign connections are up throughout the domestic system as a whole.

I never said it was "the" reason why, but it definitely adds to the numbers.

YTD numbers for the majors... (til April for YYZ and YVR, May for the rest)

YYZ 13,296,288 +4.9%
YVR 6,637,722 +7.6%
YUL 6,416,530 +4.6%
YYC 6,157,643 +0.97%
YEG 3,048,530 -5.9%

We can now add AC to the list of airlines abandoning secondary (non-GRU) Brazilian markets.

YYZ-GIG is gone as of October. Must have been doing pretty bad, since they didn't even bother transferring it to Rouge.

I suspect once the Games are over, more airlines will follow AC's move.

Find it hard to believe YUL is only 200k behind YVR, and how close does YYC have to get to 1% before it gets rounded up to 1%? :D

Beginning tomorrow (Tuesday Jul 5th), JAL is increasing its codeshare routes to Canada:
Quote:

JAL operated by WestJet
Toronto – Boston
Vancouver – Ottawa
Vancouver – Prince George
Vancouver – Victoria

JAL operated by Alaska Airlines
Vancouver – Portland OR
Vancouver – Seattle
http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/...rom-july-2016/

Never hurts to have a bit more feeder service/codesharing to YVR and YYZ for a major transpacific carrier.

LeftCoaster Jul 4, 2016 9:30 PM

Good news for the JAL route out of YVR. Doesn't help YYZ though, since JAL serves BOS not YYZ, so it's feeding traffic away from Pearson and through Logan.

Well it's more like 2 million behind. That's April numbers for YVR and May for YUL. May should be just a shade under 2 million at YVR, putting their YTD at around 8.5 million.

And ya YYC is 1.0% Looks like someone wanted to keep YYC at 0.something...

Coldrsx Jul 4, 2016 10:18 PM

You are welcome YYC, sincerely YEG.

It would make a lot more sense if you posted these figures once YYZ and YVR post their May figures. No real point in comparing different periods?

By the time they post May, the other airports will have posted June already......

Nice shot. Will try and post something similar for YUL in the coming weeks. A lot of heavies on the apron between 3 and 8 pm.
