um...it brings height to the area...and um...I don't know. I guess I like it. It's definitely unique.


I don't know if it's the CCDC website or my internet, but I can't read the PDF's for the redesigned Cosmopolitan Square, which looks like is gonna happen after all (Thank God!). But from the looks of it, a hotel will be incorporated w/ about 211 rooms and the number of condos is gonna be reduced from 290 to 113 or somethin like that. Everything else about the project is basically the same except slightly more commercial space was added (office & retail).

As far as all these Mariott's hurting the chances of a Ritz, Four Seasons, Mandarin-Oriental and the like, really the only Marriott close to that level are the JW Marriotts, the others can't come close. Having a JW at Lane Field could potentially crowd the marked for one of the super-luxury chains, but they would have to market themselves differently. Even though I love JW Marriotts and they are very luxurious, they are still not quite to the ultra-luxe level of a Ritz or a Mandarin Oriental.
I believe this was discussed on skyscrapercity.com waaaay back when they unveiled renderings. I'll dig up a link if I can find one.

RE: 7th & Market. The thing looks gigantic! The lot that it's proposed on doesn't look big enough for this project.

^^^ It's a nice looking building. Anyone know which side faces Market and the other side Island? I suspect the side with the bulbed street corners is Island.

Also, how realistic is the amount of greenery on rooftop levels? And all those trees seems optomistic.

I would think so.

The $300 million project -- contained on a single block -- will have 42 stories of market rate and affordable housing, hotel, retail, street-front commercial and cultural space and a police storefront. The developers will build a 650-vehicle public parking garage that will be owned and operated by CCDC and the Redevelopment Agency.

Affordable housing units will be dispersed throughout the tower. Three levels of private underground parking will serve residents and tenants. Above, six levels of public parking will be enveloped and masked by the residences.

A CCDC pre-design subcommittee will review a couple projects on the 6th. One is Kettner & Ash.... just north of Saphire and east and across the tracks from Bayside. It looks nice.

I suspect the other one came from where I got the above... go to the agenda for CCAC - Pre-Design Subcommittee Mtg and click on a link for the project you're interested in.

Btw, I wish there was a plan to replace the Holiday Inn hotel towers along the embarcadero... between Harbor and Pacific Highway... north of Broadway and south of Ash. They have a semi decent blueish paint job that kinda masks their ugliness and out-of-dateness..., but I see right through it an cringe. They are an embarrassment to the downtown San Diego waterfront; our front porch.

Hmmmm....I couldn't have said it better myself. It's a bit on the "busy" side for me, but it's not bad looking. The street level design looks good. I definitely prefer the glass/upper tower on the new design over the old one below:

At one time, the hotels at Lane Field were suppose to be JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton but has since become InterContinental and a new high-end Woodfin Hotel brand called Aviana (It's suppose to be in between a 4 Star and 5 Star Hotel). Here's some info on Lane Field from the C.W. Clark website.

The Setai San Diego website seems to still be under construction, but it's been announced that it will have a Forty Deuce nightclub and a newly created steakhouse brand restaurant by Maxim Magazine called Maxim Prime - so sexy!

There's no question that Kettner & Ash is another Bosa project. It looks nice enough, but I sure hope it doesn't look too much like their Bayside tower across the street.
