He owns a number of plots in prime parts of Midtown, so yes, it's certainly probable.

Yeah, as long as demand stays as strong as it is (and it shows no signs of slowing in Manhattan), there'll be new buildings. Barnett expects the success of his One57 to flow into the Nordstrom tower. Once this one is well under way, and the units are selling, there will inevitably be the "what next?". I'm sure there are already plans in motion for the next big thing (not counting all of Extell's other current developments).

The planned 88-story tower at 225 W. 57th St. will boast 220 apartments, a hotel on its seventh through 12th floors, and a Nordstrom department store in the base, which will have an entrance inside 1780 Broadway. Tony Mannarino, Extell's executive vice-president, said after the commission vote that he expected to receive city approvals by April or May, at which point demolition and excavation work can commence. That would take about 15 to 18 months, at which point the tower could begin to rise.

"If everything goes according to plan, we're looking to be finished in the middle of '18," Mr. Mannarino said.

This is not the first time Mr. Barnett has come before the Landmarks Preservation Commission to debate the BF Goodrich Building. In 2009, the commission had also wanted to landmark a second structure owned by the tire maker, at 225 W. 57th St., but Mr. Barnett was able to successfully lobby against that building's preservation, which would have conflicted with his plans. In exchange, he vowed to seamlessly integrate 1780 Broadway into his bigger project.

Yeah, we'll go from demo/excavation into construction mode when this begins. So excited for it. I'm ready for renderings, but I'll settle for definitive height figures when we can get them. The 15 to 18 month estimate is likely for getting the foundation ready.

Nope, it's a model for a ~500m tall tower.

I *do* trust that these drawings are in fact massing models and come nowhere near to indicating the final design.

I even now feel compelled to ask this rhetorically, since when I first saw these today, I was given a bit of a start. I mean, I would like to see something with bold contours and *an actual spire-like element*; not simply a box-derivative with...oh-I-dunno...a perfunctory, token crown for an afterthought.

I actually really like the un-official renderings, at least from this angle! I'm hoping the final design is something very similar to this, compliments One57 nicely!

But 2018 though? Oh man, a 5 year construction cycle really shows the height and complexity of this tower. Without even seeing the design we know its going to be a monster.

That's to get the tower completed, though for us its more likely 2017. For most people, though the store opening in 2018 will probably be more noteworthy.

That unofficial render looks more like 2,000 feet.

Nice, but I won't be impressed until I see the official render for myself.

Wow cant wait for this baby to get off the ground and rise, it will be seen for miles!

Those renders look great. It would be incredible to see this building rise over 2,000 feet, or at least become the tallest in the city. Any chances of that happening??
