More detail was added to the Jewelry counter area, including cases, spinners, and signage.

Opinions of Walmart as a company aside, you've done a hell of a job with this. The level of detail and accuracy is really something!

JHoward88 Jan 17, 2012 6:45 AM

Thanks Dac. :) Ultimately, my goal here isn't to spark debate. I suppose that conversation about the company itself detracts focus from the model, which is the actual reason why I made this thread; so I lay my opinions about corporatism aside from here forward.

I've replaced all of the generic "placeholder" fixtures in the Women's and Girls apparel areas with correctly designed and accurately positioned clothing displays. I've also done a bit more work remodeling the apparel side counters to make room for graphic panels on top.

Looks great, JHoward. This model has tons of detail!

Pingyao Jan 18, 2012 9:09 AM

yeah the detail on this is unreal, good job.

That's an amazingly detailed and thought out project. Please do post more captures.

Wal Mart as a company aside? I admire excellence and it takes excellence to build such a monumental corporation and system without gov favors the like main street shop owners sometimes demand.

The model is Horizontal Extropy!

Some 2D images to complement the rendered ones would be very appreciated

My Walmart 3D model is alive and making progress again.

I remember going to a Walmart in Germany years ago, but for some reason it made a really shitty impression inside compared to other markets. Later Walmart went bankrupt and had to close all their stores there...
That said, your model looks great, I think the new logo with its lighter blue color creates a friendlier atmosphere inside.

Great work on the details. I've never visited a Walmart, but that looks convincing.

JMGA196 Aug 4, 2013 6:02 PM

Looks very good :) Although I would like to see some more modern exterior :)

JHoward88 Nov 11, 2013 5:11 AM

^ The exterior appearance of this particular facility was actually designed to look deliberately non-modern, as it was built in a rural community. That style of facade is not typical of Walmart stores.

I've started working on a 3-D Side Counter using photo textures. It would be a long process to render an entire store with this level of detail, but given enough time I am not ruling out the possibility that I will do it:

My first fully detailed 77' grocery side counter render features candy and pudding cups :):

That's absolutely insane!! I admire your patience and commitment! No way could I ever have enough patience and interest in texturing a supermarket aisle. It also looks ridiculously detailed and realistic.

Vellu Nov 16, 2013 7:20 PM

That looks very convincing!

I have a picture in my head where you're photographing those shelves and other shoppers are wondering why on earth is he so interested in them ;)

JMGA196 Nov 23, 2013 4:15 AM

^^ My goodness that's amazing!!!

Did they implant a chip in your brain to make you worship Walmart? Anyways, pretty detailed model, still think there would be a million more interesting things to model.

Would it be possible to share your model of the store? I would love to check it out in 3d! private message me if you are cool with that. you could leave out the texture maps if that makes it easier. Thanks

It would be neat, for your next project, to see what you can do in terms of making such a place a surreal experience. A Walmart where the aisles appear like they never end. A Walmart where all the aisles look the same and as a result you are completely disoriented. A Walmart where you once you enter, you can't escape - one step worse than an Ikea.

Jasonhouse Jan 19, 2015 5:38 AM

Poor guy. He almost certainly could have emailed someone in corporate facilities and gotten a good model to start with. ;)

Looks great, and of course it's really the challenge of drawing it that's the fun part. :)

Arrange the aisles to form a labyrinth, complete with illusory walls and trap doors.
