I found a stray cat and 2 of its kittens under my house last night. Does anyone know anyone that may want a new kitten? One is white with caramel colors, the other is Black with gray stripes.
I can't believe this cat discovered a tiny hole leading to my crawl space, especially since I have run him off my yard before and my dogs hate cats. |

One could only hope that the Sheraton will someday get a make-over in 20-30 years. Probably unlikely though. It'll be one of those structures that people say, "what were they thinking" once the newness wears off.

I did a little "Staycation" this weekend at the Hotel San Carlos. I realized at one point if I wanted to use an ATM I had to walk from the San Carlos all the way to the BofA tower (if I wanted a BofA ATM that is). Thats ridiculous. With all the blank walls in some of the shittier designed buildings downtown, there really ought to be a lot more ATMs. It would help turn the blank walls into something slightly more permeable.
|
You were really that worried about the $2 that you walked almost 1/2 mile? Who doesn't take debit now anyway?

I had to go over by the BofA tower anyhow to make copies at FedEx Kinkos, so it was on my route. Either way, we need more fucking ATMs downtown like most big downtowns have. Quote:

Who the hell uses cash anymore? Unless you're buying drugs, street food, hookers, strippers, or used goods off of craigslist, it's obsolete. That's why there aren't more ATM's... it's very '90's. And who said you can only buy hookers in the night? For a comedian, you sure don't ever seem to have much of a sense of humor. |
Heh...my photo got published on the front cover of a magazine, kind of cool. :)

^Congrats! Whens that photo from?

There aren't more ATMs because like most things are City Code is poorly done and not planned well. We need more permeable edges and ATMs would help with that. I have a fine sense of humor, the first time you say something funny, Ill laugh. |

I ddnt say it was a big deal. He is bitching about a lack of atms in an age when cash id all but obsolete is all im saying.

I use cash for everything now, even routine transactions. Banks suck ass and I want as little to do with them as possible.
--don |
I hate carrying cash, it's so much easier to deal with using a card plus you don't have to worry about losing your money if you lose your wallet. Plus I get a shit load of United Miles from my Chase Debit Card. :D
|
Cash is king!
I only use my CC if I have the cash in the bank to pay it off in full each cycle (to get cash back rewards). I do like to use cash for most minor transactions though and it makes paying the bill/tip easier plus they (servers) appreciate not being taxed on their cash tips. |
I hardly ever use credit cards, except maybe for gas or trips. Not that I own credit cards.
|
I hate carrying change and I prefer to use a card to rack up points. Only time I pay cash is when I am at a bar, Lux/Cartel coffee or Mexican food at Charlies.

Just heard about the third or fourth fire engine scream northbound on 4th avenue under the police chopper. Wonder what's up?
|
Wonder too. Just got back from Cibo nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

maybe an unwed black mother threw her baby off the freeway overpass.

I have some cool photos of Phoenix coming up from my recent Hawaii trip.
In other information, check out my post #36 in this thread about Phoenix here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=186358&page=2 --don |

Random thought:
Does it bother anyone else how poorly all the development on the Pima Indian Reservation is/was planned? They'll soon have a large spring training facility to go with a decent amount of retail, a resort & casino and quite a few offices complexes, yet none of it works together. I would've loved to have seen the Stadium at one end of a nice "Main Street" with all the retail from the center along Indian Bend facing said street, all that nearby office fronting the 101 could've gone above the retail. On the opposite terminus of the Main Street from the stadium could've been the entry to the hotel/casino. Something like so: http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6720/slide1pl.jpg It seems like they could've easily done something along the lines of Westgate/Kierland/Scottsdale Quarter/CityNorth...a new urbanist sort of approach, but instead they just have a bunch of various developments that don't work with one another. It would've been much better for the Tribe as it would've likely meant more people shopping there on non game days and also more people hanging out in the area when Spring Training is going on. What a wasted opportunity... EDIT: VVV haha God Id hope not. I just whipped it up in PowerPoint in 2 minutes to describe what I meant. |
^ For a second there, I thought that was actually a rendering from the reservation's planning and zoning department.

Yeah the snow was an unexpected surprise. It lightly snowed for about five minutes by me (near 32 street and Shea).

Brrrrrrrr!
|
Yeah its fucking freezing.
|
Last check in for the night...23.5 degrees at 1:16 AM.
|
Had some water that collected in a wheelbarrow from the rain and it froze overnight, not too thick but still rare for the Phoenix area...

Want to do something good for Phoenix thats real easy? Sure you do- stop being lazy!
Go on B Cycles website and vote for B Cycle to come to Phoenix. Type in a Central Phx zip code (85003, 85004, 85006, 85007, 85013, 85014, 85015, 85016, 85017, etc) to let that company know that there's interest in the Phoenix area. Phoenix is a LONG way from being a bike friendly city, but having a Bike sharing program like B Cycle would be huge for us. Currently Phoenix is ranked #41 (432 votes) on their voting list, other Western cities like San Diego #18 (1,359), Austin #8 (4,984), Dallas #32 (793) Fort Worth #32 (532), San Antonio #30 (629), #5 Houston (16,585), Las Vegas #9 (4,263), etc are way ahead of us. Not that they'll automatically put B Cycle systems in cities with the most votes, but it can't hurt to try. I'm going to try to remember to vote once a day for this whole month to make a dent on the list. If everyone who loved Central Phx did the same I bet we'd hop into the top 10 at least. |
That would Be great for those too poor to buy a bike, then again those people would probably steal them.

Wasnt trying to be funny. I leave that to you funny pants.
Im just saying this is good for people who cant afford bikes. Then again if you have a cc you can probably afford one. |
^Sorry I misinterpreted, it seemed like you were being snarky.
I think this is less for people who can't afford bikes and more about convenience. Its for the convention goer who wants to check out other parts of Phoenix and just needs a quick way to get there. The ASU student with no room for a bike in his dorm, or who couldn't bring one on the plane with him when he moved here from Minnesota, the downtown worker who's sick of all the eateries on his block and wants to extend his reach a bit, etc. |
No pants day on the light rail this Sunday. This is sort of a flash mob kind of thing. Last year we had about 400 people turn up to freak out the muggles, so to speak. This is a worldwide event and more than 100 cities are expected to participate this year. Two crowds will be joining in central Phoenix - one leaving from the east side and one from the west.
Details and FAQ (who, what, where, when, why and how): http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...038400&index=1 Jim and I will be at the western terminus of the light rail at 19th Ave and Missouri around 2 pm. --don |
are you going to wear your hot pink shorty shorts?

Anyone else see this? These guys are sitting at the very top of the Burj Khalifa. I felt kind of ill just seeing it on video.

Kind of off the wall here but have you guys noticed how newer neighborhoods are starting to go back o the planter divided sidewalks, like the older historic neighborhoods? They are doing it with gravel and desert plans vs grass but I think it's really a step in the right direction, especially since they are doing trees in these planters too.

I prefer turf, but I think it'd look good if they provide lush-drought tolerant shrubs and ground-covers. |
Can anyone out there translate this??
eshghe donya ye mani elmira , be vojode tu paybandam azizam I believe it is in arabic or Persian Farsi... but none of the translating sites seem to work on it (save for a word or two - maybe there is a lot of slang and/or misspellings in it). |
